Late opening times for the callers office

Pete go to disagreement in your letter request like i have ask to see the risk assessment report.

We all need to fight this now before anything happens to one of our colleagues during one of these shifts.

I am getting my response to my letter tomorrow its going to be very interesting reading seen as they want to start it this wednesday.

Some how before ive even had R/Ms response i just know it wont be going ahead in our office unless some one has been into the DIM showing interest and not letting me know.

Replied received today SHOCKING news chaps NO risk assessment had been done second piece of SHOCKING news according to my DIM Dave Joyce of the CWU has agreed this with R/M and neither party have a problem with lone working in the callers.

So our later opening times has now been postponed until ive been released to do a risk assessment with the DIM.

Area rep is singing from the same hym sheet as me and has the same concerns for our fellow workers .

Suppose more updates will follow from me on my progress of getting two bodies in the bay ,this is now an issue all D/Os have to fight regardless IF Dave Joyce agreed it on our behalf.

Surely the CWU are not in a position to agree matters like this on our behalf this is starting to get a bit silly with R/M and The CWU.

If i am unsuccessful i shall clear it with my branch to contact Dave by letter how do you put an issue like this to conference for the matter to be heard there and changed.

Cheers PM some parts rather useful my heart sank when i saw Pete Keenlyside named mentioned as the letter i got from my DIM had him giving the nod aswell as Dave Joyce.

Im starting to scratch my head now it seems im fighting a losing battle and im not even a H/S rep never done any H/S work.

It seems only me and my area rep have great concerns hear wtf is going on in this job now ffs this is crazy..

In our place the late night opening is being done by a part time guy who needs the extra hours to make up what he's losing on D2D since the new agreement, and I guess that situation will be repeated in many offices across the country. Our bosses may not be as stupid as we think.

and theres the issue
we had the same for the late openings where we said it should be scheduled attendance as it(at the time) it wasnt anyones duty
however theres always someone who will do it for standard rate of pay
at this time we were a 100% FT office ,so no excuse of a PTer making up hours

Its not the point having to make up the monies lost on D2D the point is the welfare and safety of staff.

To have only one person on for 6.5hrs is irresponsible of the employer why should this just be a matter for reps to argue the toss ,why cant the staff jump on board and look at the bigger picture. How the HELL can you win a battle if the people you are trying to protect are happy to do it. We all might aswell give up and let R/M do as they chose i have never worked in an enviroment were grow men have an encylopedia of excuses.

I agree,and i raised the same issue at the time.more so as we have an open plan callers. the desk is over 1.5 m wide with no screens
its in an Industrial estate and the callers door is around the corner backing onto a railway line
its open to 8pm Monday to Friday
If something happens at night then you are screwed.there will be nobody to help you
even when staff finish they have to walk right to the end of the car park to get out.
imagine having an aggressive customer on a winter night and having to walk out there after closing!
however theres always someone who will do the shift regardless

well our callers is open 7-7 monday to Friday(typo of 8 in my other post)
the PHG is split 2 on early and 2 on late
however often they will be short of staff for whatever reason
earlys do the specials so they will under staff the late shift.
even if there is 2 staff they will often get one of them onto doing other stuff.ive even seen one out doing PM packet runs
my office is s**t going by what others post
weak staff,manager desperate for advancement.line managers are run through until he gets the real back stabbers or yes men in

ive never done the late shift as my mrs works evenings but as soon as i saw the design for the new callers i raised issues
its wide open. i may get a photo for you one day. theres no built in bandit alarm
the door behind the desk is meant ot have a keypad on it but its never used
if you shut the door it requires a key to lock
so no rapid escape method
the toilets are up the other end of the building,so not easy for a solo worker
its a big office (4 postcodes covered) and the office is now located on the far side of one postcode
basically as far away as they can get
then customers can only go halfway up the car park
they then have to walk from there
you can imagine how happy most of the punters are...........

Area rep is saying two have to lock up simples.

Getting in touch with the area H/S rep to accompany my DOM on the risk assessment.

God knows how this one is going to pan out.
