Yes, the deal is crap. And yes, you'd be forced to work within it. But if you don't have a Rep, your Managers will be free to implement whatever interpritation they can come up with, to make it work best for them. It's up to the Reps, and the rest of us (providing support for the Reps), to stop it happening. The agreement as it stands, is bad. But if they're left to their own devices, the Managers can, and probably will, make it even worse!

Maybe I will but I'll be the first union rep not to be in the union...
There's nothing stopping you re-joining. That was my point: Re-join and go for the Rep's position. Then you'll be in a position to properly represent your collegues.
Obviously, we're stuck with this daft agreement. But as others have already proved. It's possible to minimise the damage, if you have Reps willing to use it to fight for what's best for their members.
Now some don't believe that it's possible to change from within. But think about it for a minute, please: The reason that we're stuck with the current leadership, is because there's no-one to stand against them. So if we get people becoming local Reps, and then working their way up, as they prove themselves to the members at each level. Then we'll eventually get people who can stand against them. Because at the moment, they've little to loose. It's like one Political Party running a Country, with no organised opposition Party. They would be virtually unaccountable.
Don't you realise, that it's better to work towards greater accountability to the Grass Roots, than quit, and hope for the best?
