You're wrong daz, the agreements says that the MAJORITY of workers will get at least 1 in 4 saturdays off. It' doesn't name Duty holders, floaters, reserves, or drivers. That majority could be 51% of the office. But the way it's look it will be most full time employees that will be getting the 1 in 4 and probably not part timers. That's going with the options of attendance i've read.

Daz is right the reason 'majority' was used is because there are weekend only contracts in RM.

Nope. My rep has no idea of the agreement. I've been filling him in from this. Not that's he's interested. He's started to get very friendly with the dom. And it is the majority. So it doesn't name specifics in delivery offices.

It's tough luck postman if you've c*nt of a dom and we both know there's a few of them kicking about. I feel for them, i was a part-time and a reserve long enough to know it's crap. But royal mail has always operated on seniority. So you have reserves, floaters and duty holders. All chosen through seniority. For the record i'm a floater and only have been for 3yrs

It says majority because people on Saturday only contracts can't have 1 in 4 Saturdays off.
There is also the possibility of p/t staff choosing to work Thu/Fri/Sat and again they wouldn't get 1 in 4 saturdays off.
It doesn't say majority so the DOM can shaft 49% of the workforce. And if he does try it, the other 51% should tell him where to stick it.

Fixed days off at my D.O as VOTED FOR by a massive majority on a massive turn out so no experience of the long weekend structure and how it affects reserves.

Not heard of any offices with fixed days off,is this very unusual? How are days off decided and has it not promoted a lot of bad feeling amongst staff?

I've brought long weekend up or should i say saturday off and all i got we only need to give 1 day off a week, anyday. I know you could go the unfair route but thats probably complicated and could be more trouble than what its worth. Go off with stress, or depression with not having sat/mon off . Make sure you get a docs line, stay off for about 1 month. I'm sure the dom will get the message and give you plenty of oppurtinites for sat/mon off.

Direct extract for you,

Royal Mail and CWU commit to achieving at least 1 in 4 Saturdays off for the majority of employees (including reserves) during the roll out of the operational transformation programme.

The national menu of options are examples nothing more nothing less.


The DOM and the Rep wil have to decide what will work in your D.O for getting at least 1 in 4 sats off for the majority including reserves, then inform and explain to the staff at WTLL then the attendance survey goes out.

The revision is to be built around the preferences as much as possible.
