New IWT Agreed

Post by Geezer »

The New IWT has been agreed going by this so it should be in your DO very soon.
Just can't wait to see if it is as honest a reflection of workload as we are being told it is, But i guess we will soon find out.

All these tools can only be as accurate as the information they input in the first place.

Is that 12 items per minute for prep???? because if it is then that's a major step down from the 25 my office has at the minute :cool

25 items is the one minute check rate.

The 12 items is overall (ie from empty frame to bag on shoulder leaving the office)

The two are broadly similar in that prepping 1200 items in 100 minutes including vagues, deads, redirections and D2D needs letters to be going in at around 25 a minute (48 minutes of this) to leave the remaining time for bundling, clearing down, bagging up etc

No, the prep rate for the entire time is 25 per minute in my office (ready reckoner taped to each frame says that) then 20 minutes to do redirections, deads, tie up and load into vehicle.

A lot of D.O's dont have 20 mins time for redirections etc but have a lower prep rate due to redirections etc being built in to the test.

DGP - Your office are feeding you rubbish. 25 a minute is the one minute test. The ready reckoner's are crap - we all know it - my boss knows it - which is why mine is not on my frame. Thankfully some others have followed suit and removed theirs. You could not physically continue to prep at 25 a min, especially as the frame fills up and you start to prep your flats in. Sure, the ready reckoner didn't even allow you time to prep your 20% d2d's into the frame as per the old agreement.

Anyway, the IWT is the new baby they will try and beat us with. I just hope they put the right info in at the start!!!!

In fairness, the new IWT (v6) seems realistic, the DOM has gone through it during S.I, we checked the parameters, they are all in exel
for transparency, what it did show that, although we were efficient on prep, the IPS sorters were not performing - lazy B------rds :Very Happy

Realistic.....if applied to a single slot RM2000 frame with all of the work in front of you.
But i have to say that 12ipm is exactly the same unagreed rate that Royal Mail have been using at least in my area for years.

11 in my D.O is enough to satisfy the DOM. :hmmmm

Some OPG's can do faster than that some are slower.

Last time I was tested 2006 I think I was too slow, but when I asked what difference in time that meant I was told being at the faster speed would have had, the answer was it knocked a mere 10 mins off my prep time.

Well it looks like it is agreed now - and the copy and paste - that was what happened when RM presented the wish list to the CWU, they copied, pasted and put it forward as a negotiated deal for the ballot :chuckle

Remember this from sept 2009....

ROYAL MAIL UNAGREED STANDARDS

LETTER AND SPREADSHEET CURRENTLY IN CIRCULATION.

THE FACTS

The Royal Mail documentation currently doing the rounds in delivery Offices can only be described as corporate twaddle. It should be confined to the waste bin and the so called expert who devised it should be taken off pay.

The letter states that the accepted standards are at least 1220 items per hour on IPS and 12 items per minute on preparation. (To emphasise the point that they are twaddle these figures may vary from area to area)

The important thing here is that they are stating “items” and not letters. The fact is that Planning Values were industrially engineered on the different streams of traffic i.e. Letters, Flats, and packets, not a combination of all three.

There are no planning values for IPS that incorporates all three streams as “items”. If by chance they did incorporate all three into one value this would result in significant variations across delivery units because of the variances in the mail profile, i.e. the number of flats, letters, pkts etc can vary on a daily basis on each delivery, and from delivery to delivery. So it is not possible to apply a broad brush approach to any delivery or unit.

Furthermore there is also an anomaly between the letter and the spreadsheet. The letter quotes expected standards of 1220 items IPS & 12 items Prep, yet the spreadsheet uses throughput rates of 750 items for IPS and 10 items for prep. Not very scientific!

The letter also states that “It is a contractual requirement that you work to at least these standards”, it goes on to state “we can compare work rates and from this we can see that you are now not working normally and below the acceptable standards and are therefore not performing your contract properly”. This is nonsense and is designed to frighten people; there is nothing in the contract of employment about meeting arbitrary sorting standards. :left: There is now.... There is reference to collective agreements in the contract but none of these imposed standards form part of a collective agreement with the CWU. To threaten to take our members off pay if they do not achieve these arbitrary and unagreed standards is totally unacceptable and we are seeking legal advice on this matter.

The spreadsheet takes no account of moving from IPS to prep, dealing with dead letters, redirections, missorts, queuing for specials, loading your pouch/trolley. It is pure fantasy and assumes that our members materialise at the IPS frame and then re-materialise at their prep frame. It is further evidence of the unrealistic approach that Royal Mail is taking towards performance and efficiency. The only way that many of their standards can be achieved is to have a support mechanism of bullying, harassment and intimidation in place. Not that they would stoop to that level!

All members should continue to work normally and work safely. We are not asking anyone to go slow or work below accepted and agreed standards. Do your job properly and maintain your discipline and dignity. Let them lower the standards of behaviour. You are better than that. Thank you for supporting your union and each other.

The Royal Mail documentation currently doing the rounds in delivery Offices can only be described as corporate twaddle. It should be confined to the waste bin and the so called expert who devised it should be taken off pay. And the union that agreed it - should they be taken off pay - well they're off my payroll.
Now correct me if I'm wrong but is the twaddle not now the agreed figure?

You never cease to amaze me ft in producing just the ammunition to nail the lie and as for the union not turning that is true, they are spinning like a top.
:d'oh!
