No, it's not your fault your Rep resigned. But why hasn't anyone else gone for the position? :hmmmm
You need someone to be your Rep, or the Managers will walk all over you. It doesn't neccessarily have to be you. But someone needs to step up.

Indeed...very sinister. The negotiation minutes should be made public so we can see exactly what was said and by whom.

If the CWU asked you to jump off a cliff, would you?

Its a sad fact that there is now a growing movement within the RM workforce that is now wary of both the CWU and RM's tactics. Could be the start of an alternative union? Who knows...

Its no good trying to deny this, Dingo. That kind of head in the sand attitude is the very reason you and your PEC cronies got the 2010 agreement so very wrong.

Youre out of touch and out of sync. This is one reason why our local rep resigned - he wasnt willing to be held responsible for implementing an agreement that was so bad for the office.

Now we have no rep we have to fend for ourselves. No one in my office is willing to represent the CWU as they feel so betrayed.

This is a fact.
So your rep has gone and you're going to get steam rolled, with your rep there it's not going to happen.
You're doing yourselves over.
Yea its our fault the rep resigned 'cause he wasnt willing to back the crap deal the CWU would have forced him to approve.

Honestly postman...
Come on pick, you've left yourself open!
Use the agreement as best you can,are you saying you office is going to stand by and let RM dictate what is going to happen in your office with no comeback form you lot!
Get a few of you together get a committee going.
Don't blow it.

No one in my office wants to represent the CWU, Postman..

Everyone is so aggrieved how could a new rep support an agreement they voted against?

I was going to d it but now theres n chance.

What has being the local rep got to do with supporting the agreement or not?
Do you think every rep voted in favour of the agreement?
The deal is done and now begins the job of seeing it implemented properly.
Either you have the conkers to stand up and be counted.
Or you want to stand and winge and whine on the sidelines.

Seriously Pickaname. You should go for it. You're certainly not afraid to speak up against what you believe is wrong. And that is an important part of being a Rep. Yes, the deal is crap. And yes, you'd be forced to work within it. But if you don't have a Rep, your Managers will be free to implement whatever interpritation they can come up with, to make it work best for them. It's up to the Reps, and the rest of us (providing support for the Reps), to stop it happening. The agreement as it stands, is bad. But if they're left to their own devices, the Managers can, and probably will, make it even worse! :hmmmm

Maybe I will but I'll be the first union rep not to be in the union...

Do some of you not get it,better to negotiate something than let them do what they want.

Don't forget when the revisions start properly there will be all sorts of figures to be taken into account.
How much staff you've got,how many part timers, how much work, how much D2D,how you box in,this that and the other.

Most of you on here have had part timers shoved on you,you are absorbing like it's going out of fashion, you may be suprised when everything is put in the mix.

And don't forget all the new duty options.

Managers wont like you doing this as they will be stuck on a 5 day week, but it's nothing to do them!

Don't blow it!

Must say, I'm a bit baffled by this throw your hands in the air and walk out of the union attitude. What do people think they will achieve ? the union will go on; it will be weaker ,and the next agreement will be worse.
I suppose next time they will feel even more justified in bleating how hard done by they are and how the union have let them down, all the time conveniently forgetting that they have done jack s**t to help themselves . You only get out what you put in so why be surprised when you get nothing?
The time to be doing something about the next agreement is now. If you think this deal was crap then do something positive to make sure the next deal is better.
Don't make the mistake of thinking it won't get worse ,because as far as RM are concerned they have only just started attacking your terms and they will be back for more than you think possible. So if anyone can tell me just how, sitting crying into your plastic coffee cup is going to be an effective method of fighting pay;pension ,and job cuts ,I'm all ears.

So lets analyse that. What is put in is the finance to run a huge organisation which is SUPPOSED to be dedicated to enable the membership to enjoy better working conditions with adequate reward and to be able to retire with dignity with a pension that reflects the final salary they have been paid. Now what exactly has been achieved from that really quite small list of objectives for the money invested in the CWU?

Does anyone believe that the shop floor membership is going to be able to influence the decisions made on their behalf in the future or will it be again left to those gallant few whose vested interest lies not with the membership but with the organisation itself. Take the decision to withdraw from supporting the labour party..................., which of course hasn't happened, now who decided what? The ballot on the pension? The forceful campaign on the pension deficit.................. yes I can see where staying in the union would influence decisions.

DVB - you have made your decision. History I believe will show you this is a reactionary step.
The reality is a weaker union presence in our units will play into the hands of management.
They play divide and rule.
Divide the union memebers from the non-union members.
Divide the f/t staff from the p/t staff.
And you are now playing on their side.
But hey - you've saved £3/week.
I hope it is worth it.
Never let the hand you hold, hold you down.

The union mother IS the weaker presence and as for now playing on "their" side who exactly is they - because according to this agreement we are now all on the same side.

Actually mo it wasn't £3 a week because I am part time and I don't remember how much a week it was but the money wasn't important, the principle was. Unfortunately whilst the apologists make excuses nothing will change despite the "change from within brigade". Reactionary steps change things not acceptance of poor standards.
