So you are damned if you do.
And damned if you don't.
The simple solutions are:
a) never get ill
b) don't get too attached to your pooch
c) get married after work
Or apply for a CMA grade. :nervous
How many managers are sacked for attendance related issues?
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Good to see you've not lost your sense of humour (while I've been away)
You'd have to a complete tosser to even begin considering that step.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Could you point me to the exact piece of Royal mail literature where it says this?
Justify your statement.

No, I don't have access to such RM literature, but to go off and claim sick pay saying it was due to lifting an overweight bag when it was not an industrial injury is fraudulant just as claiming overtime payments for hours not worked could be.

So I guess you believe in being honest when the management are quite clearly not.

How about law of the land http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Employment/ ... /DG_175834" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Your conduct
If your employer has dismissed you because of your conduct, it usually means you have broken one or more of the terms of your employment. For example:
continually missing work
poor discipline
drug or alcohol abuse
theft or dishonesty

Your employer should follow a fair disciplinary procedure before dismissing you for misconduct.[/url]

What about the DOMs favourites who can take time off and not even be marked down as being absent.. 1 guy full of Drugs after a Music Festival phones in on Mon Morning gets his days swapped another guy in Hospital for Shoulder Op wasn't recorded as being off sick injured his shoulder again within a month, back on sick and not recorded as being off sick again, it's goes on and on too many to mention.. But it depends on the DOM who can go sick and be put down as sick or not - Just another case of BULLYING & HARASSMENT

I'm sure many of us could give examples of managers acting unreasonably or unfairly, but that's NO reason or justification for us acting dishonestly. :Very Happy if you say it's okay to claim a workplace back injury when that's not the case how then can you condemn a colleague for lifting a £20 note out of a birthday card because he's not been paid for three hours overtime he worked ?

I think that this paragraph from the attendance procedure would probably be used in such cases....
No employee will be dismissed on grounds of unsatisfactory attendance if Royal Mail's standards of attendance are consistently achieved. However, those minimum standards are not intended to have the status of an entitlement. Employees will need to demonstrate - by meeting the customer requirements on notification and certification of absence - that the sick absence was necessary. Deliberate abuse of these provisions will constitute misconduct and may result in disciplinary action.

Well, if being honest results in a person losing their job when lying would save it I know which one I would take.
But then I guess you're the type who's on a moral crusade, or maybe you just talk a good moral crusade.

What are you on about m8?? Read my Post again and then original Post:

Then imagine the phone call toi the DOM on the Monday morning -
" How you doing gaffer, i'm not gonna make it into work the day cause am still buzzing out my tree on Drugs, jeez what a weekend still mad with it the now "
" That's alright just take the day off and we'll swap your days off " - Meaning some other dafty, will have to do your work.

Then the original Post is someone grieving for a Pet she's had for a long time and has been her only companion. In an ideal world she'd still have a job and in any other employment that guy would be out of a job...

No, not on any 'crusade', moral or otherwise, and I fail to see the relevance of " How you doing gaffer, i'm not gonna make it into work the day cause am still buzzing out my tree on Drugs, jeez what a weekend still mad with it the now "
As someone else said 'Each to his own' :Very Happy

I think the point being made is that when management use there discretion you can often avoid
getting on the discipline ladder .
(A relentless conveyor belt once it starts)
The fact is that managers use there discretion all the time .
and then they don't when it suits.
It is inconsistency.
Now isn't favoritism the same as treating others less favorably .? :hmmmm
