Re: Late opening times for the callers office
what about people who work in petrol stations at night on their own? How does H&S get past that one? Surely several thousand gallons of highly inflammable fuel and a till full of dosh is slightly more risky than a few damaged badly wrapped parcels and a couple of P739?

Re: Late opening times for the callers office
Fuel Stations have practices and processes in place to lessen the H&S risk.
1. When only 1 on site main door is locked and access is via a small window.
2. They have a status update they have to complete at set intervals failure to do so starts an alarm/process.
3. They have bandit alarms connecting them to the Police.
4. The fuel pumps and the cells underground have a variety of sensors including temperature, pressure and air quality sensors all aid in prevention of a possible flammable incidents.
5. Multiple CCTVs set in various strategic locations that have the pumps, access points, staff, tills and cash points in view. The most important ones, such as staff views and access points are constantly monitored at a central location with immediate access to the emergency services.
Royal Mail normally have
1. A single CCTV which is not viewed all the time and usually in a central location. It is also designed to deter staff theft rather than customer related incidents or H&S issues.
2. A phone number you can call a manager.
3. A bandit alarm.
Umm thats it - all reactive when really in these situation to have all bases covered you also need proactive ones such as 2 and 5.

Re: Late opening times for the callers office
The main point here is the locking up of the office alone!

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: Late opening times for the callers office
I think its totally irrelevant whether theres any high value items on site ,at the end of the day an opportunist is just that out for what ever might be available to them at the time.
The point on this issue is the safety of our colleagues just because its not a bank or jewellerys doesnt mean if the worst case senario happens one of our colleagues wont be harmed the actually likely hood is they will be harmed simples.
This is an irresponsible move by R/M and clearly shows they are not concerned for there employees welfare. Lets try not to compare whats about to happen here with the likes of banks etc. Lets start thinking about changing R/Ms mind set and get two bodies in there.

I think you'll find, LL, that all those barns have been converted into luxury homes, and the yokels have realised because the price of housing has risen and they can no longer afford to live in the area.Lounge Lizard wrote: That's right, and in the back of beyond the yokels haven't even noticed the building's not just another barn.

No, they've not all been converted round here, some are used for hay or animals, others are derelict.motherhubbard wrote:I think you'll find, LL, that all those barns have been converted into luxury homes, and the yokels have realised because the price of housing has risen and they can no longer afford to live in the area.Lounge Lizard wrote: That's right, and in the back of beyond the yokels haven't even noticed the building's not just another barn.

Re: Late opening times for the callers office
Read across this thread with great interest as the same thing was presented to me today. My DOM has had instructions that the callers office will open Wednesday untill 8pm and Sat until 5pm with only one person in attendence. As h&s rep i pointed out that this was unsafe and asked to see the risk assesment for this change in working practices. And what do you know he cant find the relivant paperwork. Ive look quickly on the intrenet when nobody was looking and found nowt. Where are the national guidlines associated with new national policy of lone working? Anyone know? How do you oppose this dangerous practice if one individual wants to risk it for extra money??
