Parcelforce Pay Negotiations

The department is publishing this LTB in response to numerous enquiries from local CWU Representatives and members regarding rumours allegedly promoted by Parcelforce managers, that the talks have broken down and that the CWU have walked away from the table.

This is bitterly disappointing, unhelpful and untrue and any managers suggesting such a situation are doing so from a position of ignorance and should quite frankly know better.

To date we have published joint communications in respect of the progress of our difficult discussions. However, as a consequence of these rumours the department has been forced to respond.

The current and factual position is as follows:

The talks are incredibly difficult and complex, the business has now tabled a closed/in-confidence offer which the department is now giving full consideration to. It would be totally unreasonable and unprofessional for us to respond immediately to the proposal without carrying out a full financial and operational analysis which is currently being undertaken.

The department is seriously concerned that the offer as it stands is not consistent with the 'Joint Statements' we have previously published or the excellent performance of both the company and the CWU members.

Equally, the business has invited further discussions to give full consideration to the current offer and any new ideas which could move us forward which clearly illustrates that the talks have not been concluded.

Against that backdrop I can confirm that the talks have not ceased and that we will explore every opportunity to resolve this situation via dialogue and agreement. So the premature and uninformed opinion of people not involved in these negotiations should be treated with contempt and ignored.
