Hey there, good forum you have going

looks like I've secured a 12 week thingy as a casual mailsorter in Peterborough, any advice on how to get started?

Was also wondering if I do well whether I'd get an opportunity to transfer over to a London branch when I move back up for uni?

If you still want to work for RM after your 12 weeks, you could try asking HR if you could get a transfer to a London Mail Centre as a Part Time OPG.
We do have PT OPGs in our MC in the evenings, from around 1700-2100/2200, but RM are cutting staff in the London MCs and might be closing one or more in the future.

If I can get a chance I probably would, I've done worse work and the income during term time would be mad useful.

Got an email about some missing documents, bloody hell they had them during my interview and copied them

Doubt that you would get more than one day's training - if that.

Depends on your contract. What did the advert say, and what were you told at interview?

That's true! Basically, your minimum hours should have been set out either in the advert, or the interview. But you will almost certainly be expected to do more than that at peak periods. And as a casual, it's possible to vary your hours down, as well as up, at a days notice anyway. The good news though, is that if/when you're given a contract (either fixed term or parmanent) you'll always be guaranteed your minimum hours.

For example: When I was a Casual (back in the '90's) I was told I'd be working 20 hours per week. But I actually did 40 hours.

If you're a casual sorter in a Mail Centre your hours are likely to be between 1700-2200,
probably 4/5 hours a day Mon-Fri, but you might get more depending on the amount of work/staff.

You'll get paid weekly.
