No post till 8pm after Royal Mail cuts

DISGRUNTLED residents in Northwood say staff cuts at Royal Mail mean they are receiving their post as late as 8pm, with no delivery at all on some days.

For the past six weeks, they say, they have not had a regular postman and have been getting their mail delivered by various staff who are working overtime.

Chairman of the Northwood Residents' Association, Tony Ellis, who lives in Kewferry Road, said: "One of the postwomen told me the managers in the Greenford sorting office have decided Northwood should operate with five staff less than normal.

"Five runs are being delivered by people on overtime who are coming from other areas such as Uxbridge and Harrow.

"As a result, the post has been arriving as late as 8pm at night, and some days we have no mail at all, but we have no idea if anything is going missing.

"Surely an efficient daily postal service is something that all residents are entitled to?"

A Royal Mail spokesman said: "In line with our national modernisation programme, there have been changes in many of our delivery offices, which have entailed alterations to some delivery rounds.

"But these will not affect the daily and timely delivery of mail to all our customers."

Ruislip, Northwood and Pinner MP Nick Hurd said he would look into the concerns raised by residents.

"I want Northwood residents and traders to feel that they can rely on an efficient postal system," he said.

"So I am concerned at this news and will be looking into it.
