All of the above postmen where using private vehicles whilst on delivery.
How many accidents on RM bikes or in RM vans in the last 13 years? Or don't they count?

Total scaremongering.

How is it scaremongering when he has posted in a thread about car use some accidents that have happened when posties used their cars. He has not said do or dont he just presented that facts. I think you read what you wanted into brothermagrews post (as perhaps I have as well).

On Cycle accidents, and Van accidents we do also post stories on them when it comes to light you only have to do a cursory search in News to see that. There are risks in any action, Walking, Cycling, running, OMV driving, PCOD driving when delivering post and presenting incidents when posties use PCOD and something happens seems ok to me. Or perhaps you believe not making people aware of these incidents would be OK.

Presenting information to posties and the public is the reason RMC started and if we stop doing that because one side of an discussion thinks its unfair or scaremongering, I personally think it would be a retrograde step.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Particularly when we now have a national agreement which specifically states that the use of cars is to be stopped. :hmmmm

I think that sums it up really as although it might take a while cars will be banned and then after that anyone found using thier car will end up being sacked. Funny enough thats how it was when i started :Very Happy

So this debate of using your car or not will no exist anyway.

So are you saying it's safer to ride a bike or drive an RM van rather than your own car? Is it not just as likely that you'll have an accident regardless of what you're driving/riding?

Like I said, scaremongering.

Why would anyone want to use their car when they'll have an RM van?

Easy way to prove it and we'll all shut up.
Give us the figures on the cycleists and those in a RM van who have died in an accident and if it is higher like i said we'll shut up.

Oh and try and find one who has killed an 80yr old lady as well, then that score will be evened.

To be fair Postman, Cycling is well known to be more dangerous than driving. But aren't all the bikes being phased out anyway? :hmmmm
But as for the debate about the safety of using your own car: That really depends on the condition and suitability of the car. For example:
RM vehicles have limiters.
Risk assessments are performed on the use of RM vehicles, to make sure they're fit for purpose.
A lot of people drive older cars, which don't neccessarily have all the safety features on the RM vehicles.

Not everyone will have a van in fact single use van duties will become shared park and loop. Other than that it will be HCT and the golf style trolley as bikes will also be slowly withdrawn for HS reasons. Once people get used to working the full 8 hours a day regardless they would not want to go back to using their car anyway. I mean why would you :hmmmm
