The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) is investigating reports that one of its mail carriers was killed after a dog attacked him on his route.

Eddie Lin, 33, died from injuries he sustained during an attack May 25 on Stanley Street, according to our media partners the North County Times.

Lin was found lying in the street with a severe head injury, the paper reported, and died June 3 despite efforts from doctors at Tri-City Medical Center.

The USPS has not released any information on the carrier’s death but did confirm that the agency is investigating.

Lin’s wife said she’s frustrated by what she considers a lack of response from the USPS.

"When they found him I noticed his uniform from the back was ripped," Teri Lin told a local television station.

Postal inspector Silvia Torres told the North County Times that investigators are still working to piece together what happened.

"We would not want to give [Lin’s wife] information that turns out to be untrue," Torres said.

There are no criminal charges pending according to Oceanside police.

A spokesperson with the USPS said that any time the safety of an employee has been compromised the agency considers it a top priority.

Appears to have been a rottweiler going by this article.

Lin was delivering the mail around 4:30 p.m. when Brutus escaped out the front door of his home and headed for Lin.

"We heard screaming," said neighbor Georgia Mitsopoulos whose gardner saw what happened. "He said the dog ran across the street and the next thing he knew the mailman was on the ground."

Another neighbor also rushed outside and found Lin lying in the street dazed and drifting in and out of consciousness.

"The dog was standing a few feet from him and the owner ran outside and put him back in the house," said a witness who didn't want to be identified.

And from another article:
Letter carrier Hao Yun “Eddie” Lin was working overtime covering his co-worker’s Oceanside mail route when he apparently caught a Rottweiler’s attention through a window.

The attack that followed on May 25 left Lin, 33, a father of three, with a head wound that proved fatal nine days later.
