A lot depends on how much sleep you get,i get an average of 5hrs a night Which is nowhere enough.
I just can't go to bed early.

When i come home i have to do the school run and i try to keep myself (non physical) busy,if i get comfy on the sofa i'm gone within 5 mins.
Kids keep me busy and so does RMC during the early evening.The problem then gets worse cause after me bath i'm wide awake in the evenings.

Fecking vicious circle.

I'm 39, have been in the job almost 4 years and am on a 32 hour contract - I sleep about 6 hours at night, and when I come home during the day I am fit for the knackerer's yard so go to my bed and usually wake up about 2 hours later. I used to do the 30 minute nap on the sofa thing but as folk have pointed out, it just makes you feel worse

I'm in my early 40's and do 32 hours a week and yes, you guess it, after a delivery I'm pooped. Its not the hours that's the killer, its 3 hours of walking with sacks of sh*te on your back that does it. My knees and hips ache and like the rest of you, if I sit down for more an hour when I get in I'm done in. Mind you, I've never been fitter and would never take a job indoors ever again. Its my day off today and was still up with the lark, get all my jobs done then I can justify an afternoon snooze in front of Flog It!

Well you have to bear in mind that before the new frames came in we got to sit and sort for a few hours rather than having to stand up the whole day. I think that's what killing us all off.

I think for walking posties and to some degree driving/firms posties this is the real bane of the job and certainly 1 that senior reps, no matter how in touch they are, or motivated they are cannot understand unless they have experienced it.

At Huddersfield we have posties who have done 20 and 30 years and they say that only since SDD have they really started to feel the physical impact. Some also say that although the basic job is the same all the crap that comes with it have changed the job drastically since SDD.

I have only been in since SDD but even since then the job has changed, I think this is one reason, fair or not, that senior reps and Union officers can sometimes be perceived as "out of touch". There is a saying - There is no finer teacher or instructor than experience itself.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz1what's that? somebody said something.? I'm usually half comatose by the time I near the end of my round every day. I usually have to be manhandled over my rather high doorstep when I get home! but no sleep for most of us ladies, just getting on with the tea and things. BOO waken up!

i would agree , the job since the introduction of SDD is much more physically demanding , when we were 6 day weeks and two deliveries it was nowhere near as knackering as it is now , plus you were finished earlier and if you needed a nap before the school run , you had time for a decent one . who'd have thought an extra day off each week could be so tiring

And that is what "self funding" the 5 day week has cost us........
