hi all
Start on Monday (induction) then office Tuesday. Know I will be tired the first few days but wondered if anyone out there can answer a few questions for me -
1. Contract 22.5 hours - what happens if I have to go over that to finish delivery and is it compulsory to carry on till finished?
2. Is uniform in realistic sizing?
3. Tattoos - will I have to wear a long sleeved shirt because of them?
Any help appreciated

Welcome - BTW the job means you'll be tired all the time.lr73 wrote:Start on Monday (induction) then office Tuesday. Know I will be tired the first few days but wondered if anyone out there can answer a few questions for me -
You may be told that it is compulsory but it is not. Join the CWU as soon as you can they are a god send when you start. Some overtime is expected but it certainly is not compulsory - however pressure will probably be applied and you will probably have to learn to say No.lr73 wrote:1. Not too bad but the quality is poorlr73 wrote:2. Is uniform in realistic sizing?
Unless they are provocative No - Normal mill of the run tattoos are acceptable.lr73 wrote:3. Tattoos - will I have to wear a long sleeved shirt because of them?
If your trainer, rep cant answer any questions, or you just need more information please use RMC its a great resource.lr73 wrote:Any help appreciated

No. You're right, it'll definately get you fit. It is a very stressful job, but then so are many others.lr73 wrote:I guessTrueBlueTerrier wrote:Welcome - BTW the job means you'll be tired all the time![]()

Re: hi all
Don't worry once you get to know the customers (the ones we delivery to) the tiredness and gripes you get in any job are outweighed by the positives. Stick it out through the first few months and it can be a rewarding job - despite RMs best effortslr73 wrote:I guessTrueBlueTerrier wrote:Welcome - BTW the job means you'll be tired all the time![]()

1. Andy is not in deliveries he is an RDC man so his job may well be stressful. More likely with WCM, as he has.
2. People handle or recognise stress in different ways. I am ex forces and I find even confrontation not that stressful. The only thing that stresses me out is bad management techniques (shouldn't have joined RM then
3. Once you are out of the office I agree there is little stress. Well until you meet a snarling dog or customer

Re: hi all
Well I have only got a 3 month contract (lets you all get your holidays) which suits me as back at Uni in September. Will probably get different routes all the time but hey if I can handle the stress of being a single parent, mortgage, uni with exams and now work as well (last worked in 2007 but was made redundant so looking forward to it) I can handle anything.
I say bring it on!

Re: hi all
A query - if I leave my car at the depot and get dropped off in the RM van how do I get back? I dont want to use my car but dont want to have to walk miles back to get it. Do you have to go back to the depot everyday anyway?

Re: hi all
What should I wear for first day at the delivery office and until I get a uniform (unsure who orders the uniform?), I know the induction day is smart casual. Dont want to look a idiot being too casual or too smart. Any ideas?
Also what are the best shoes to order for comfort?

Re: hi all
Clothing - Depends on the weather ie if raining best to wear waterproof clothing and for it to be as light as possible. Jeans/Denim is OK as its hard wearing but TBH in summer its too heavy and when its wet its worse. I purchased cheap canvas type trousers when I first started, light enough to wear under waterproof leggings and not too heavy when its hot. Shirts and or t shirts, rugby tops etc are fine as long as they are not garish, insulting or promoting illegal activity.
EG this would not be a good look
With footwear there are 2 ways to go.
Cheap trainers that you don't mind being ruined, or go out and buy proper walking boots though they are expensive. Whichever way you go make sure they have good ankle support and a decent tread.
Do not go for normal trainers as they are next to useless and your ankles will ache after a few days. Also do your best to wear in new shoes before you have to walk 6 - 9 miles in them. Walking with blisters is no fun

But it could be argued that that's a good T shirt, giving vulnerable youngsters the message that taking cannabis might lead to death.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:Clothing - Depends on the weather ie if raining best to wear waterproof clothing and for it to be as light as possible. The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.
