Deutsche Post to Save EU1 Billion in Mail Overhaul, WiWo Report

Deutsche Post AG aims to save 1 billion euros ($1.21 billion) within a year at its mail unit, about five times more than it had previously
targeted, WirtschaftsWoche reported, citing unidentified people close to the German postal company.

Deutsche Post may eliminate mail delivery on Saturdays as part of the plan, according to the weekly magazine. The mail unit, the company’s most profitable, is accelerating the cost- savings effort as it faces increasing competition, WirtschaftsWoche said.

Former unit Deutsche Postbank AG could pay more than 100 million euros for 277 of the 350 postal outlets Deutsche Post may sell as well as take on staff, the magazine said.

Which wouldn't be much of a poblem given the high turnover of staff these days. :nana :nana

No Saturday deliveries seems to be catching on in most of the civilised world. We'll all be probably long dead before Victorian Britain catches up.

Nothing new in that. At least the poor sods left on the coalface will get a decent working week, without the ever longer, ever harder Saturdays, which will soon be forced on us.

Look mate, whatever we do, or don't do, the number of jobs in RM will be less, and less, and less.
Let's not beat ourselves up about the possibility of a few more jobs going, if it means just for once, the many get something out of it.

So far, since 2003, the CWU has overseen the loss of 65,000 jobs, in that time we've worked every Saturday. The forecasts for further falls in the overall number of workers 'aint good, might not be accurate, but a further cull of the workforce is most definately on the cards, and yet, we will still be working all the Saturdays God sends.
So, please, let's have less of the hand-wringing, "oooh, but if we introduce a Mon-Fri working week, we will lose jobs," because we're losing jobs anyway, so what's the difference? :hmmmm Yep, you've guessed it, we get something out of all this carnage for a change, something other than more workload, less pay. :cuppa
