A FUN DAY in memory of a teenager who died in a collision with a car has raised more than £5,000 for charity.

More than 1,000 people turned out for the second family fundraiser to be held at Shrub End Community Sports Centre, Colchester, in memory of Daniel Andrew, pictured above.

Daniel was 16 when he was hit by a car in Greenstead Road, Colchester, on June 13, 2008, riding on his bike.

He was a passionate Colchester United fan and his family decided to launch the annual football fun day in aid of the U’s community sports trust and Little Havens Children’s Hospice.

Football aside, attractions on Sunday at the centre, in Boadicea Way, included, karate and dog agility displays, a bouncy castle, bucking bronco and side stalls.

Mark Andrew, Daniel’s father, said: “It went very well and I would like to thank all the volunteers and Royal Mail, which sponsored the event.

“It’s the sort of thing Daniel would have enjoyed.

“He was great with kids so he would have endorsed the support for Little Havens.

“He was also involved with the community sports trust.

“I think we did him proud.”
