For anyone processing International Mechable packets.

Post by pepsi_max2k »

Not sure if this should be in the Customer forum or not, figured people here might know more though, and no one else seems to know...

Does any one here know details of what qualifies as mechable for international mail? Specifically packets sent via the International Unsorted & Format Sort service?

I'm trying to find out simply whether a DVD with my own address lables (generally meet OCR spec but have a PPI logo very close to them and return address at the bottom of the lable) would quality. Ie. it's regid, *sort of* rectangular, will only just fit 19mm at a push. I've seen the 19mm limit somewhere, and the only other info I can find is @
ftp://ftp.royalmail.com/Downloads/publi ... pril09.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Which, on page 3, says little more than basic size limits and "recommends" following OCR guidelines... Unless it's a flat/packet. FAIK rigid items don't qualify and I can leave it at that and not bother anyone else about it. Then again, maybe they do, and I'm needlessly paying Xp more per item.

FWIW, I've contacted my account manager about this, who didn't seem to know much (just pointed me towards the above PDF). Online help on RM website don't know anything outside UK stuff (as well as telling me my account manager wasn't an account manager, at which point I got the message and left, quickly...). And sales, as always, will only care about how much I spend and pass me on to my account manager for specifics...

Well, if it's the same size as the Tesco/Lovefilm ones.....

They'll go through fine.. We chuck 10's of thousands of them through our iLSM's & LSM's every week....

Before they break the machine, though!!!
And after a while, you can work on points for style,
Like the club tie, and the firm handshake,
A certain look in the eye and an easy smile.

You have to be trusted by the people that you lie to,
So that when they turn their backs on you,
You'll get the chance to put the knife in.

They're cased DVDs, so a lot thicker than the card sleeved ones.

Aren't LoveFilm / Tesco UK only? They were always rejected from the UK machines when I worked for RM over Christmas. Which is what's making me question the differences for international mail. If it was UK only I'd know exactly what was and wasn't mechable :cool International seems a whole lot different... Anyway I've been told to call RM customer service and ask for an "international specialist" to see if they know.

Sounds like a perfectly mechable packet for international to me! I work on the packet sorting machine at international- hope this helps!

It would be best to keep the return address on one single line at the bottom of the label, or better still on the reverse of the packet.
