Hemel new mail centre
The rumours about a new mail centre at Hemel are going around again, people are saying Royal Mail already have the building in place (the one used at xmas?) anyone in the area shed any light on it, I thought if it was to be a new mail center for Hemel, Watford and Stevenage RM would build a new building and not move in an already used site?

Re: Hemel new mail centre
I did hear the rumour to,its a big building and a fairly reasonable size yard. The fact that RM may have purchased the site was leaked "accidently"one presumes!!!!so will not be confirmed by any manager,RM will want an agreement before they release any details of mail centers due to be axed.IF,the rumour turns out to be true and a new mail center is built,it'll proberly take in the the work that Hemel does now as well as all the work Stevenage & Watford mail centers do.

Re: Hemel new mail centre
We keep hearing rumours of them shutting Peterborough MC, Cambridge MC & Stevenage MC and moving it all into a new office next to the A1/A14 at Alconbury...
Nobody will confirm or deny the rumours.....

Re: Hemel new mail centre
Now its a yes vote,i guess RM will be kind enough to let us know which mail centers are for the chop what was the figure due for closure under the 2010 agreement?if it is correct about the Hemel site,Watford mail center and the existing Hemel mail center will almost certainly be combined.I guess RM will find an industrial unit for Hemel deliveries to move in to,do RM own the original Hemel site near the town center or is it leased?

Re: Hemel new mail centre
Would there need to be any alterations to the building for it to be used as an MC?
If so, just check if there's been an application for planning permission. That's how the site for the new (current) NWRDC was found, before even the Managers knew! Aparently, they went ballistic, that the Posties knew before them!

.The story goes an announcement will be made today and at a stab in the dark,i'll guess it concerns the new mail centers up and down the country, who's for the chop ect ect.
Had a phone call from a mate who works at one of the delivery offices serviced by Watford and they have been informed by their manager to attend a meeting tomorrow(Saturday) at 7pm.

Re: Hemel new mail centre
I work in Watford MC and got a letter yesterday (no doubt there was a leak and thus RM couldn't pull their usual "don't know" stance) it's a great place for an upscale mail centre very near M1. I went past it on my travels yesterday out of curiousity, it's a stonking big building, could easily fit 2-3 mail centres inside (assuming we don't waste site space like Watford). According to the brochure online it's got some sort of in/out dock but I didn't see the back. No doubt it needs some work doing to get it ready to go as a mail centre (at least, a security railing or wall around it). But I reckon it's going to be quite a bit faster than starting from a bare site.
Well, it seems likely this will suck up all the work from Hemel and Watford - anything else would seem a little insane (yes, I know RM would define insane as something different from everyone else). I did hear 2-3 years ago - and it does seem plausible - that Watford MC would be used as a big delivery hub for surrounding areas. We'll see what happens.

Re: Hemel new mail centre
Yes, it should have the docking setup you read about. It's the "in" thing at the moment. They call it Cross Docking. Basically, the Mail comes in on one side of the building, and goes out on the other. It's actually a good system. We've been using it for some time now.

Re: Hemel new mail centre
There are 2 units on the new proposed Hemel mail center site, have Royal Mail got both units?,would the second unit be for a delivery center for the HP postcodes?HP covers a fairly big area, the logistics may maek it a non-runner,could be 2 HP delivery offices Hemel & Aylesbury, the other story i hear is long term plans show flats/houses/shops to be built on the existing Watford site,so perhaps a new Watford delivery center is on the cards as wellswoosta wrote:Had meeting re Hemel office, Hemel expected to go in spring 2011 followed by Watford by summer and Stevenage late 2011/2012
