A VILLAGE postman known as Pickwick who has delivered mail to residents for nearly 20 years was thanked with a surprise party.
Nearly 200 Hughenden Valley residents turned out at the village hall to show their appreciation to Dave White, who has delivered post with a smile for years.
His nickname Pickwick came from when he sported a set of sideburns which made people think of Harry Secombe and his role in the production, Pickwick.
Residents said he always took the time to get to know people and his thoughtfulness shone through.
Dory Morgan of Hughenden Valley Residents' Association organised the party and helped raise money for a present.
Mr White was presented with a painting of Hughenden Park by an artist from the area, a customised card and a cheque for £1720.
A rendition “For he's a jolly good fellow” was followed by a party with food and drinks served by the residents' association.

"Residents said he always took the time to get to know people and his thoughtfulness shone through."
"know people" though not necessarily in the biblical sense.
"Dory Morgan of Hughenden Valley Residents' Association organised the party and" the breakfast was her idea.
