pension payout early.....what are the chances

Post by goldi2k9 »

last august i got ill health retirement caused by a frozen shoulder due to an accident at work , i think at the time they estimated that it could last around 5 years and so i was only given the usual lump sum with no immediate pension, since then ive learned that there is other damage which will not get better without an operation (tendon and muscle) , i now recieve industriual injuries disablement allowance and i was wondering if it would be worth writing to the pensions office and asking if they would consider an early pay out, im 44 now and i had 19 years service (more like servitude) when i retired , thanks for any help forthcoming

Im afraid you have no chance of your early pension. Under the law changed in April your pension cannot be paid until you reach 55 ( the amount would be reduced by 5% a year, because your getting it early and receiving it early is at the discretion of the trustees ).

The only way to get your pension early is if the Company gave you ill health retirement with pension at the time you were given your notice. However, you were not giving that and your pension would be frozen until you were 60.

Im sorry to inform you , as far as my knowledge goes that the decision made then, is not negotible years later. You signed the agreement between yourself and RM and that is that.

The new agreement states that in the opinion of the company medical personnel 'that you cannot work for 10 years for either royal mail or any other resonable work for another employer to be able to receive your pension' .

That comes as no comfort to you Im afraid.

Death is the best chance of an early pension, but that's no good as your wife gets it all and she'll only fritter it all away in no time at all.

But look on the bright side, you don't have to listen to her any more (tbh I don't listen to her now, when there's a silence I just say 'Yes dear') :nervous
