Cops find gun stash inside Lambhill Post Office

COPS have seized a stash of guns inside a Post Office just yards from the scene of a deadly triple-shooting.

They were called in to Lambhill PO in Glasgow by worried liquidators who found the weapons after the branch went bust.

The outlet is across the road from Applerow Motors - owned by David Lyons - where one man was blasted to death and another two seriously injured in a ruthless underworld execution in 2007.

Before the PO closed, its customers were being urged to sign a petition protesting against a decision to strip Lyons, 49, of his licence to carry out MOTs.

Last night a source said: "It's incredible that cops found guns in there after everything that's happened in this area.

"There have been all sorts of rumours about the post office.

"Then, all of a sudden the place was closed down overnight. And now this - it's frightening."

Strathclyde Police recently gave secret reports to the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA).

The move led to Lyons - who denies he's involved in any crime - being banned from carrying out MOTs at his garage.

Relatives of the garage boss have been locked in a brutal gangland feud with the Daniel crime clan.

The PO weapons find came four days before the funeral of Daniel enforcer Kevin 'Gerbil' Carroll, 29, who was shot dead in January.

In 2007, evil James McDonald, 35, and Raymond Anderson, 47, gunned down Michael Lyons, 21, at Applerow and injured two other men.

The assassins were each caged for at least 35 years but are appealing the jail terms.

Last night a Post Office spokesman said: "Lambhill PO is shut as a result of the landlord being declared bankrupt."

A spokesman for Strathclyde Police said: "Firearms recovered from an address in Balmore Road are currently being examined.

"We don't believe they have been involved in any criminality."
