Re: BA and union talks stopped by protesters

"borders" old chap, if I wanted to call you a thicko, I would have done. In this instance I didn't, and my point was towards the SWP. Now do you get it, or shall I repeat it for the fourth time and prove that your (mis)understanding of the use of the word "obtuse" was actually totally apposite.
Meanwhile, methinks old "borders" doth protest too much.... :hmmmm

This is going too far now!

Post by andy2007 »

I'm sorry it's taken me so long to intervene, but I've not been on-line for a day and a bit. But this is going to have to stop Tman and Borders.

I see no problem with Tman's original comment. As he's already explained, it wasn't an attack on Borders, but a crafty dig at the Protesters. BUT there's no need for all these albeit mild, personal comments about Borders in the subsequent posts. I can see why you're upset Tman, but if you have a problem with someone on here. The way to deal with it, is to either politely defend yourself, or ask one of the Admin/Mods team to intervene. Trying to deal with it by throwing insults around, only causes arguments. And that's why so many of the discussions you've been involved in have descended into slanging matches. Which ruins things for everyone else.

The big problem we have in this thread now. Is that it's rapidly descending into a row between both of you. I completely understand how Borders misinterpritation of Tman's post, has caused so much offence. But that time, it was simply a misunderstanding. But Tman's subsequent posts, all include insults. And that can't continue.

So basically, it comes down to this: The posts up to now, I'll leave alone. If there are any further insults from either side, I'll have to intervene. Most likley, by just editing out insults. But if they get worse, or are persistant. Then it may become neccessary to take things further.

Well in the land of the blueshirts dictionary I think he has just called you stupid :no no naughty, naughty :no no Mr Tman.
Well Andy , Brothermagrew seems to interpret his first 3 words as i did. now that of course is a matter of opinion , just like you have an opinion and Tman has his opinion. my post was a little joke albeit not a very funny one and if he or anyone else had said your post or comment was obtuse the meaning of that word would have been directed at my comment and not a direct comment on myself. lets substitute the word obtuse with its dictionary meaning----" dont be so mentally slow, not pointed, dull, stupid " how does that read in comparison to what he could have wrote -- " your comment is mentally slow, not pointed, dull, stupid" .
as we can read from Tman last post i am sure he would not be afraid to call me a thicko on line on an internet forum if thats what he thought i was ......

Quite so. Would this be classed as a "roll" or a "paradiddle" now....?

I'm sorry Tman, but I don't understand. :confused
I had to look up the definition of paradiddle. And aparently, it means a quick succession of drumbeats.

That's the big question. Were they misguided, misled by an Agent Provector, or did they deliberately start out to prevent the talks taking place? :hmmmm

When the news first broke. I was convinced that they were simply misguided. But now, I'm not too sure. Particularly as it was so easy for them to find the meeting, and the fact that there was nothing to stop them getting there. Now, I think it's far more likley that it was an Agent Provector.

What do you think?

I've given this a lot of thought Borders. And although I was convinced at the time that the word obtuse was aimed at your argument, rather than you personally. I'm beginning to wonder now.

It is my opinion Andy that groups like the SWP are made up of 90% idealists and 10% attention seekers.
There is nothing wrong with being an idealist,i was one once before the wife, the kids and the mortgage but it's the 10% that worry me.
An organisation like the SWP needs publicity, without it membership dwindles and that 10% finds itself ignored.
I don't think it would be too hard to find out where the meeting was held after all i would imagine the SWP would have members inside Unite as they do the CWU.
However the lack of security does surprise me after all the press had been following both parties for most of the day and i would have imagined some security would have been required just to stop press intrusion.Maybe someone was taking a smoke break....who knows.
I think at the end of the day it was just a poorly thought through publicity stunt......maybe. :chuckle

OK, obviously this is going to be the full ten-minute Ginger Baker drum solo, so why are you "beginning to wonder now"?

Because of your attitude since then, of course. You've included an insult in all your replies since then. With the possible exception of the one about drum beats, which I still don't understand. Perhaps you could enlighten me.

Really? Highlight them please....

Read back through them Andy. I'd like to ask if you're being obtuse too, but the word seems to generate misunderstanding and antagonism in equal proportion.... :speak to the hand

Rather than clog up this thread, I'll send you a PM with them in a few minutes. But anyone else who's interested can always look at the posts for themselves.

I've no problem at all, with you saying that you think one of my posts is obtuse. Feel free.

By the way: I'm completely serious about my confusion over this post:
Quite so. Would this be classed as a "roll" or a "paradiddle" now....?

Are you using drum beats, and drum rolls as a metaphor. Or am I missing something?
If it's a metaphor, then I don't know what you're trying to illustrate.

I'm not being facetious. I really want to understand what you were trying to say.

But if you ask for further clarification he might start going on about the flam paradiddle-diddle.
Is that really going to help?
