Unless one of his customers was a postman.POSTMAN wrote: Who would know,he told no one.
And customers won't have a clue either if it's only delayed a day.
It happened in ours....twice.
Mail was in the frame in the morning but didn't make it through the letterbox.

Re: Upset and scared :(
Doesn't the IB count as the police? They didn't have the power to detain me or search anything without my permission but they made interviews and everything like that which was recorded on tape they told me it was also sealed from tampering in case thing went to court. I was under the impression when they finished the interview it was all sent to the CPS who would then decide whether to prosecute. I got caught and was interviewed on the 14th of April, so that would make it 6 weeks tomorrow and i haven't heard anything from anyone.fishtank wrote:Ashy you are miles away from the CPS.
First of all you would have to be interviewed by the police and they would decide whether to charge you with any criminal offence.
Then THEY would send a report to the CPS before the CPS would decide whether to progress with a prosecution.
If you haven't been charged by now it is UNLIKELY that IBs recommendation to the police contains criminal charges.
But i STRESS this is only my OPINION.
I have a mate whos dad is a policeman, spoke to him and well he said i'd probably get a caution as its a first offence but after reading on google of stories like this most of them did end up in court so i don't know. :(
As for getting caught i really have no idea, the one thing that stands out is one woman used to come in to collect her mail because it never got delivered, my DOM told me though shes been coming in for months even before i started working i used to have to give her mail to the DOM every morning off the frame.

Re: Upset and scared :(
They have been famously slow in the past.
headlines like" rogue postman had 2000 items in shed "
"thefts over 2 years" etc.
I often wonder why patterns of bad behavior are not spotted earlier.
surely a trail of customer complaints leads to the thief.
ones along the lines of "my son was sent cash by his grandma and never saw it".
or "this is the second parcel this month i haven't received"
when we now have a work place dominated by part timers, floaters and reserves and
a spate of sign ups due to office revisions.
patterns of thieving are harder to spot.
not questioning honesty of p/timers just pointing out that a static postman sh***s on his own doorstep.
thats a return to my previous point about RM's proceedures causing problems.

I hope this helps because it is FACT as opposed to opinion....
Security and Investigations in Royal Mail Group
Subsequent restructurings and a name change to Royal Mail Group has seen the number of
businesses reduce to four, Royal Mail Letters (RML), Post Office Ltd (POL), and Parcelforce
Worldwide (PFW), together with General Logistic Services, Royal Mail’s international parcel
operation. Within Royal Mail’s Group Centre, Group Security continues to provide strategic
direction, governance and performance supervision, and maintains formal links with the
Home Office and Ministry of Justice, Police and Law Enforcement Agencies and other
Government departments. RML, POL and PFW maintain operational Security and
Investigation teams, led by Heads of Security and staffed by professional investigators and
security managers.
The investigators in particular are trained to rigorous standards and operate in accordance
with all requisite legislation, including the Police & Criminal Evidence Act, the Regulation of
Investigatory Powers Act and the Postal Services Act. Security managers normally have
experience in a wide range of operational and commercial areas, and develop technical
competence in fields such as crime risk management and modelling, electronic and
mechanical security, behavioural security and so on. At present (2010) there are a total of
287 investigators and security managers employed within Royal Mail Group.
Although bound by the provisions of the acts detailed above and others, and accorded certain
privileges in the use of police facilities and access to criminal records and communication
networks, these days Royal Mail investigators have no special powers or rights. Suspects
are interviewed and searched on a voluntary basis, and where arrests are required the
support of police officers or other statutory law enforcement officers is usually sought.
Royal Mail Legal Services, the successor to the Post Office Solicitor’s Office continues to be
recognized by the Ministry of Justice as a private prosecutor and prosecutes on Royal Mail’s
account in England and Wales. Royal Mail Security teams report alleged criminal activity to
the Procurator Fiscal in Scotland, and to the Public Prosecution Service in Northern Ireland,
following the same processes as police services in those two countries.
Royal Mail Group continues robustly to protect the mail and all other assets that are entrusted
to it and it remains a principle of the Group’s Code of Business Standards and Conduct Code
that those who steal from Royal Mail, or its customers, must expect to be detected and
prosecuted.

I guess the salient part of this from Ashy’s point of view is the line;
Sorry but we're still dealing in opinions.
Going by the information that Ashy has given up on here, he is only guilty of delaying mail. He has not been stealing. There has been no tampering, opening of mail. No mail has been found anywhere other than in his car which he was using to make his deliveries.“- - - - those who steal from Royal Mail, or its customers, must expect to be detected and
prosecuted.”

It would depend on the quantity of the mail and whether there was a RM employee (or relative) on the part that wasn't delivered.POSTMAN wrote:The dodgy part of this story is ashy started shabbing in April and the IB were involved so quick.![]()
He mentions a couple of weeks and the IB were on the case, they're not that good.

Re: Upset and scared :(
alot of people here saying he did wrong and stupid things. i wil ltell my own experience and i think im lucky to be still working in this company.
i started in june 2008. on the first 3 days i went out with my trainer. he is s**t. i cant believe he is a trainer. he said nothing. i went out on my won on the saturday and got lost abit but then was ok after that.
for the first few months i didnt claim overtime. because no one showed me, i didnt know i could. i was naive yes. at the moment our office is lucky, we have 2 fantastic manger imo. much better from what ive seen at other offices. but i remember one manager who wasnt helpful. he was helfful in terms of making sure you took all your mail out the office. but when i asked him one time i wanted to finish at 2 (my finsihing time) he flipped and told me i was a useless postman and of no use to him. i told him i was finishing at 4pm for the last 2 weeks but my finishing time is 2 and im working for nothing. he said nothing. at this point i was ready to throw in the towel and quit. i was encourage by my family to keep at it. it really got bad when i was a spare one day. i was doing half walks, way past my finsih time. then they said i had to do another half and finish it. even though it was after 2 pm. i was out till about 7pm in the dark in an area ive never been to in my life. this was at christmas time. another time i broke a proceedure which i was never told about. my trainer didnt tell me about this whihc he should. no one did but eventualy one guy told me about my 'rights'. this was months after starting. finally the the manager everyone didnt like in our office left and things start to pick up, there was light.
now, i love my job. there is no secureity which worries me but i do love it. i had to learn everything from making mistakes, mistakes which have cost the comany, but wasnt my fault, but theirs for not teaching somethings i would never have thought i needed to know. i have sympathy for most posties who starrt our or quit. there under alot of preasure and are bullied. i try to tell as much to new starts when ever we get them. alot dont hack it and quit soon after. but if you can manage a few months, youl be ok.

Re: Upset and scared :(
Sorry to hear that pal.
A guy at my old office stole credit cards from my walk and he just got the sack and is now working somewhere else, so dont worry about prison and that.
Also MY old DOM told a part-timer who was down covering that could not get done because it was getting dark to take the mail home and deliver it the next morning on his way ! What happened that manager you ask? well nothing as they just brushed it under the carpet to protect his sorry ass from being out of a job! Makes me mad!!!!!

Posts like this make my blood boil.
While I'm not for one minute excusing the willfull delay of mail,Its no wonder new starters are bringing mail home or dumping it somewhere when they can't manage.Procedures don't seem to be in place to rectify these problems and there is nowhere or no-one for these guys to turn to .The management in RM consists of an unhealthy amount of men and woman who are quite happy to bully and intimidate new-starts and the meek into working unpaid overtime. They don't give a s**t that some of these guys are working into the night 'cos they've already been home since midday with a nice bonus in their back pocket.
Also where the F*** are the reps in all this?? Honestly from the posts I've read here it seems like a large number of these guys are f**k**g useless.I never even knew who my rep was until about 3 months into the job, never even once introduced himself.I know if I was a rep,I would get every new-start that arrived into my office and tell them their rights, what management could and couldn't make them do and if they were struggling then come and talk to me.

Re: Upset and scared :(
My daughter when getting her roof done, the roofers found 12 bags of mail in the loft, now this put me in an akward position do I grass my daughters husband (btw she had no idea they were up there) or do I say nothing, well I had to tell the IB, they found another five bags in the shed under a pile of rubbish that had been put on top of them.
This mail was up to two years old but none had been opened he just couldn't be bothered to deliver it and all he got was the sack for wilfull delay ( in my opinion he should have got more ) needless to say my daughter saw sence and divorvced the creep.
The worst thing was he worked in the same do as me and I had to deliver some of the stuff he couldn't be arsed to.

Re: Upset and scared :(
i think if anyones ever in a position of not being able to complete their work or thinking of taking mail home, tell your manager. for example ona saturday you have a few specials. the DO is shut, the post offices are shut. what do you do. you cant take it home, you cant leave them in a dropbox. you contact your manager and ask them to pick the specials up from you but they say take them home, bring them in on monday, dont let anyone see you bring them in, :s there are so many proceedures and rules, but most of the time there not followed or broken. :s
