Police are appealing for witnesses to an incident in which a postman died after his bike was hit by a lorry as he cycled along Margate seafront.

Mick Garner, who had worked for Royal Mail for more than 30 years, was taken to hospital after the accident in Marine Terrace, which took place at about 3.45am on Friday last week (May 14). He died later.

Mr Garner, who was 61, lived in Garlinge and delivered to the Millmead area. He leaves behind son Jonathan, also a postman.

A keen Chelsea fan, he was hoping to see his team parade their Premiership and FA Cup trophies at the weekend.

Police closed the road for more than five hours, causing traffic snarl-ups during the morning rush-hour.

Tributes, including flowers, were left at the scene of the tragedy.
