Depends on what you call professional drivers,in a Delivery office ,all jobs are on Seniority .

Mail centre..Distribution

hi i would like to know as a reserve driver from processing,if a job comes up in distribution can i apply before the didstribution staff if my seniority is high.
how is this process decided distribution staff before processing staff even though we are used on a regular basis and have the experience.

usualy done by suitability, if over subscribed its suitability,seniority those not qualifying would be covered under MTSF.

step 1 - transfer to distribution as it is propably a different business unit/resourcing unit to the mail centre

then to progress to the mgv pro driver grade, and it is a different grade to opg, then the pro driver resourcing agreement goes something like,

selection criteria for concideration

less than 6 points
no drink driving/dangerouse driving
no RTA Blameworthys
good attendance
no missconduct
at least 2 yrs driving expieriance at previous level

all staff who qualify are then ranked in seniority and duty allocated

Area distribution units, often attached to mail centres. mix of opg drivers doing collections and mgv pro driver grade (mostly 7.5 ton) distributing mail to D.O's and collecting from some large firms.

this is a very commen set up

only persistant blame worthies on RTA or serious accidents are included in the criteria

Thought you'd know this ,EOTR!!

Only one going through it now i believe.

I think RM tend to treat people like commodities,and do as they please with em ,with regard to attendances etc.

Always changing it.Mind you, i think this particular instance,the union has shafted a lot of decent people this time.

I think managers and reps have these meetings and get on well together.A bit too well.(see below).

The rules have been laid down and corrrect procedures will have been followed, its hard sometimes and there is no other way.
Unless you think its right that management can select who they want, the same management you slate. The seniority system has been used in many places and it works within RM you only get problems with re signs when "other" methods are used that have black hands in them manipulating the results for there own ends.

Will anyone lose there job or be forced to move to another unit ?

The only injustice in the Hull mail center,happend 3 years ago when drivers like me and by the tone of your posts you,gained better dutys because of mtsf.

I because of the mtsf farce have had 3 years doing better dutys and earning more money then drivers who had been in the job 20+years before me.

As for management and the unions being to freindly?

I think some of our junior men and some managers are very good friends eh
