Ex-footballer Tony English raises money for St Helena

A FORMER footballer turned postman had so much trouble giving up his shorts, he wore them all year round for charity.

Tony English, 43, of Bramble Way, Leavenheath, was one of Colchester United’s star performers for more than a decade.

Captain of the team when they won a Wembley FA Trophy double in 1991/92, the ex-footballer has clung to his roots since retiring in 1996 to become a postman.

But the quick-footed postie has found a way of keeping the dream alive, by wearing his blue postman’s shorts all year round.

Mr English raised £422 for St Helena Hospice, thanks to residents putting cash into a jar at the Great Horkesley Post Office.
