Totally agree with javidfreekashmir after they have done all his work for free perhaps they could come and do mine. Royal Mail have never given me anything for free so I don't give anything back for free and that's a situation that I am happy with. :so there
JUST A THOUGHT BUT ARE THESE PEOPLE THAT START EARLY CLAIMING THEIR EARLY START ALLOWANCE IF IT IS ON A REGULAR BASIS AND NECCESSARY

new starters supposed to start at 8 (due to 25hr contract), but known to come in at 5 cos walks aint prepared for them, cant really win at our place if you work to contract time.
Dude, that is a seriously disturbing vision of an office. 25 hour contracts!!!! Pinky, where the hell is that office????
Is it any wonder Royal Mail do not want to employ full time people any more? starting 2 or 3 hours before your contracted time. Why don't you just do the job for nothing and have done with it?

Starting early

Post by postiebob »

To be fair I do come to work early about 10 minutes, the reason is just to have a cup of coffee as within the hour I'm off driving on nights.

Yes i come in before my start time, this is so i can have a cup of tea. I do not and will not start before my start time.

But I am sorry to say this is not the case of many of the staff who work with me and they can not or WILL not see the harm this is doing.

  It won't be long before they see their jobs disappearing before their eyes, and the one's who start to moan will be those who are causing all the problems in the first place. That's unless they find the balls to do something about it :arrrghhh :arrrghhh

Sometimes

Normally just to play catch up with door to dustbins as i like to do them over a smaller amount of days. This week for example nobody in my office hardly ever touches them on a monday tueday lightest day of week 1 hr job and finish wednesday is day off leaves to days to do 80%. But i only do 205 pre duty time, the other 20% are in RM time and not mine.

yep, come into work around 4.45am supposed to start at 5am...hate to be late for anything in life, appointments, meeting friends etc am always there
at least 10 mins before proper time, come to work on my piaggio typhoon,if it ever fails to start the 15 min buffer gives me a chance to get out onto the road
and start walking with thumb out and hope on of my colleagues give me a lift so am not late,
I get to work 15 mins early but don't do any work till around 5am,by the time signed on,put coat etc into locker, been to the loo, got a coffee, and had a quick chat with m8s
about stuff it usually 5am anyway
there are also a fair amount of people who roll in around 5-10 minutes past 5am,by the time they have signed on,been to locker, got coffee and had a quick chat with m8s
they actually start around 5.30am,strangely enough these are usually the same people my driver is waiting for to finish tying up so he can take their bags out...so i get out on delivery...... deliver first bag,and then have to wait 20 mins for same driver to deliver my second bag because he has had to wait around for these late people

so perhaps as well as well as the "don't start work early"campaign there should also be a "don't start work Late "campaign too!

Perhaps you should try we at little ol st neots just down the road from you do.

All the 5am IPS duties are not due to start IPS untill 5.10 am we have 10 mins for intra mail to be sorted up to the prep frame our pre 5am IPS crew sort up the intra and put walksorted boxes onto prep frames. This means that the stragglers, those that start early and those that start on time all start IPS at 5.10am.

Answers such as 'wont get done', 'cant finish on time otherwise' or any thing like that are blow out excuses. not your problem if you dont get done, not your problem if you cant finish because there is to much work. If anyone needs to come in an hour, 30 mins earlier to finish their duty on time then there is a series prob with the duty, a prob which you are not being paid to worry about, the sooner we start putting these probs on the managers desk, the sooner they see how over worked some postmen are.

We've got a serious problem with this at my office, we have full time staff arriving up to an hour before duty start time and part timers arriving anything up to 2 hours before. :no no

A few of us are actively trying to persuade them that its part of the reason why our office has been slashed to the bone over the last 5 years and asking them not to do it. The usual reply is either "its none of your effin business" or else they'll agree in principle and still keep coming in early.

We've even asked the glorious management about insurance policy with people being in the building when they aint supposed to be and all we got was "well, its up to them really, i guess they just want to finnish earlier." In other words, f off, its saving me a pile of docket and contributing to my bonus.

Not content with doing themselves out of overtime, it also impacts on those of us that start at the correct time as when i invariably have to book docket i get "when so and so does that job they're always back in time" when they know full well that so and so starts an hour before they should.

Makes me MAD :mad
