Devils advoctae here:

RM would say when Walk Sequencing hits this will save 20 minutes indoor time every day. 5 x 20 = 1hr 40 so in their mind with adjustments even though you'll be doing the same work as now it wont take you as long. They'll probably come for the other 40 minutes at some point as well.

 According to the agreement, the first 30 minutes will be sort of saved. Then you can bank it, and sav it up ansd claim it back. (IN theory) The second 30 minutes will be introduced only after implementation of revisions, and some of those will not be implemetted in some offices for at least a couple of years. Again, If folks think they are suddenly going to get a full hour taken from one of their working days, this is not the case!

Well it certainly didn't sound like that on the snake oil trail nor in the trailers for the agreement but then again the £1000 sounded really good but when you may have to wait 2 years for it, not that spectacular really..........................ah well you can't have everything - I mean they have managed to get some people the £400 - the old winners and losers trick again.

 Last comment from me on this subject! Quoting here directly from the agreement---The shorter working week will be implemented in two phases---there will be a reduction of 30 minutes, or credit given(either aggregated to provide additional leave or taken as s/a when the mail centre is W/S mail for 50% of it's catchement area. The final 30 minutes will be given when M/C is W/S 100% of its delivery units. simple really!

That's in the "processing" part of the agreement - mail centres not deliveries.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

 Yes, but if you scan through the agreement, we will only get the shorter working week when the M?C have W/S the mail read it over again! I'll get back to you with the page number and see if you come up with a different interpretation of '
The shorter working week!

My copy is at work but it's p71/72 I think.
The 39hr week will begin when we get w/s mail.

Yes, it's on page 71 /72 ;Annexe c' no matter how you read it, we only get this shorter working week, in line with (and presumably, on the same 'terms' as the M/C ) when W/S has been deployed---think I explained on a previous post how the'yve worked that one out. Of course, I will stand corrected if any one from the hierachy can come on here and explain it differently! The only sure thing is that we are not going to go in to work tomorrow, and be told you can work one hour less every Tuesday! I believe the Agreement does suggest that if there is some confusion on some issues, they can go back to the drawing board, and at least try to clarify things!

I think sister you are confusing matters.
The DOs will move to a 39hr week when walk sequenced mail is a reality for them.
The DOs will not get walk sequenced mail before the Mail Centres are geared up to providing walk sequenced mail.
When the DOs move to a 39hr week it will be one hour less/week. This may be several minutes/day or it may be 1hr less every Tuesday. This may be down to local preferences.
The time saved by the introduction of walk sequenced mail will generate the 39hr week in DOs. The MCs are a different kettle of fish.

:wave Thanks for that. Still as clear as mud to me! But, if we have to wait, as implied for the MC to W/S the mail.before we get our 'hour.'--surely we have to wait, and cannot get our extra time before this implementation?
I also see that there are a lot of' maybes ' about how we are allocated this time, from a few minutes, to perhaps a full hour taken from one particular day!!! It's very much a case of maybe, might, when and how.

It could just equate to 12 minutes a day,60-5=12mins,it would'nt take much for the numb skulls to make it not worth much!it's the 1 in every 4 saturdays that might cause abit of a problem we dont get 1 in 6 now and the poor part time staff never get along weekend in fact they are luckie if they know what day off they have got the managers give them tuesdays off because it's a shorter working day in our office, now that is some thing that should be of a concern they treat the part time staff like second class people,as an after thought :evil/mad
