Do not disagree mate, but if a properly trained person cannot reach a standard of lets say 15 a minute then (acheivable)
no wonder we have some performance issues in SOME units. I understand our unions aim is to protect us, however whether
we like it or not RM is a business , it stopped being a public service years ago
Time it stopped holding it's hand out for public money then, 'aint it? :cuppa

I agree Harry,if the union can take the whole agreed standards bull into a dark corner and bury it they may win back a little of my trust.
I would much rather fight unagreed standards than have to tell some guy he's been sacked for not meeting the joint RM/CWU agreed performance rate.

At the end of the day no one should be afraid of FAIR and ACHEIVABLE testing, age, dissability etc plays no part in IPS. Every full timer should do his fair share of the sorting. I will fight any genuine colleagues case but get very frustrated in our office, some work their socks off whilst others arse about, talk and not sort etc etc at the end of the day x amount of mail comes in to be sorted, if i do nowt others have to do more to get it done!!!. I don't think that it is fair that any one does my share of the sorting, i respect colleagues in my office, hence although i always have a laugh and joke i do my share unlike some....... This has no refrence to the starter of this thread at all just a statement to some who put on their colleagues and do not believe in doing their share, it's not my job to go telling tales to management, so agree with testing to sort out the minority who make no effort to learn the boards and do their share..... But there are agreed standards in place ensure the tester is using these appropriataly not some un acheiveable made up numbers!!!

And that's what it will come to, I'm afraid. Going on the CWU's track record with shyte agreements, I always fear the worst, mate.

I understand your point Cheetah but if managers can't or more likely won't deal with slackers now, what makes you think they will in the future.
It doesn't take a genius to work out who is p*ssing about in your office and you do not need agreed standards to deal with it IF as a manager you want to.
These performance standards will much more likely be used to harrass offices as a whole with comments like "you should only need X amount on the IPS today because you should all be sorting at Y rate and there is only Z traffic"....ring a bell anybody. :hmmmm

Good point Fishtank...... I don't expect them to, they don't give a t..s about fairness, just want it done, don't care if you do 1500 letters and i only do 500 as long as it's cleared...... But surely as colleagues we should, and as the sorting has to be done before we can throw our rounds out should all want to do our share so we can get off at the proper time..... And we all know like you say about anomalies in traffic figures they come up with, Dropping off :no no :no no , the only place it seems to be dropping off to me is the end of my bl..dy fitting. Even the union are pedling the decrease in mail but what do we know we only handel the traffic :hmmmm :hmmmm

If you have a disability and you are covered by the DDA , then management "have to make reasonable adjustments" . Like myself , because of my disability, I have not done any IPS sorting, for the last few years. So it does play a part in IPS.

We have a manger who can sort with the speed of three men!He has taken to sorting in the morning in a vain attempt to Motivate/intimidate us with his superhuman abilities,if we slowed down he could sort the lot! 1 min non accuracy just handling is all they have. The 20 min test has to be with 24 hours notice,on a clear frame with all the work/cards in place. If you fail said test RM have to provide you with the resources and training to achieve this.Yeah right!

your manager should not be on sorting, its not his job to sort its his job to manage!!

:chuckle :chuckle Our 3 spend their time on IPS and then 2 of them prep frames for the PTers (whilst the other one does the mis-sort run). Maybe cutting so many hours out of the office on the promise of less IPS work was a mistake :nervous

Maybe cutting so many hours out of the office on the promise of less IPS work was a mistake “I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed, or numbered! My life is my own.”

Exactly the same happens in our office......Every single day!!!! They throw rounds out (at least 2 every day), they drop bags off, they convey the few of us who don't use our car, and if they can't bully someone into doing overtime they don't want to do, they deliver :no no :no no. Now i don't want to put anyone out of work but RM talks of efficiency :d'oh! :d'oh! . They don't fill vacancies with a postie on about £18,000.....They put a failed manager on the case for about £25,000+.
Years ago the union would not accept management toutching ANY postmans work no exception, a part timer was made up or someone employed to fill the vacancy sign of the times me thinks :hmmmm :hmmmm..... They should not be allowed to lapse any duty then put a manager in to do that work :no no :no no
