As a point of interest, Once the changes are in place.... THERE WILL BE NO OVERTIME......Duties will be covered by you...if you work over the hours will be banked and an extra day off will then be offered.... paying overtime in money will be a last resort.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

There was mention of it in the infamous phase 4 of the 2007 P&M Deal but we all know what happened to that.Big Daz wrote:POSTMAN wrote:Where has that come from?seeker019 wrote:As a point of interest, Once the changes are in place.... Re: 39 hour week
I think the opportunities for o/t will be greatly reduced.
With Saturday becoming a normal day our Friday nightshifts will go.
And the possibility of hybrid duties will mean the end of collections being done on SA.
God knows what "the delivery span being an enabler" will mean for claiming extended delivery.
The rep at our place is telling people to learn to live within their means because he can see a lot of o/t disappearing.
If you get the extra - great, but don't rely on it.

Re: 39 hour week
Difficult this, as many part timers will be getting top up credits etc, so their weekly income isn't too bad, but in all fairness, full timers should be given equal opportunities for overtime if they want it.

I would argue that if overtime was available then PT's who want FT contracts should get them ,or new jobs are created. If you need overtime to get by then your basic wage is too low.dvbuk55 wrote:No worries there then stokesy, that will be almost everyone.stokes11eg wrote:BUT --the work will still have to be done! In fairness though it's my strong belief that if overtime is available then it should be first offered to part time staff on short contracts.

Re: 39 hour week
I couldn't agree with you more B, there is far too much overtime worked on a regular basis, whilst part time members contracts are not enhanced in any way. In my office over the last few years every single full timer that has left, for whatever reason, has been replaced by a part timer, yet overtime is consistently worked to cover the shortfall and that cannot be right. As for the basic wage, it must be very difficult to manage on a 20/25/30 hour contract whatever your status! unless it is by choice and circumstance.BELIAL wrote:I would argue that if overtime was available then PT's who want FT contracts should get them ,or new jobs are created. Ther was a hue and cry in America about companies paying low wages and then those low paid, either by hourly rate OR KEEPING HOURS TO A MINIMUM being paid social payments to maintain themselves and it looks like RM are trying the same trick.

Yep .let's face it ,neither of us are geniuses ,but compared to the bulk of RM staff ,we got a 20 mile head start in a half marathondvbuk55 wrote:I couldn't agree with you more B, there is far too much overtime worked on a regular basis, whilst part time members contracts are not enhanced in any way. The Rep is a very good representative BUT with a 40% part time staff ranging from 20 to 33 hours exactly how would you put a stop to the overtime? I am sure that our Rep of almost 20 years standing could certainly use some tips in stopping people trying to earn a living wage.

Re: 39 hour week
I suspect dvb if it was as easy as stepping up to the mark there would have been no need for the strikes last year,we could have brought RM to it's knees with a simple work to rule.dvbuk55 wrote:

Also there would be no need for the massive job losses or the huge influx of part-time staff over the past 3 years.
If only we had stepped up to that mark.
Of course i don't work my day off on SA.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share
