A BUS driver accused of causing the death of a Birmingham grandfather by careless driving has appeared in court.
Postal worker and grandfather-of-six John Ariss, 63, was on his way home after finishing a shift at the Royal Mail depot in Aston when the fatal accident happened last December.
Mark Decalmer is charged with causing the death by careless driving. The 40-year-old, of Gladstone Street, Aston, appeared for a preliminary hearing at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court yesterday but did not enter a plea.
He was bailed and ordered to reappear at Birmingham Crown Court on June 11.
Mr Ariss, a dad-of-five from Weoley Castle, suffered multiple injuries in the early morning collision. It happened at the junction of Lancaster Circus and James Watt Queensway.
His family were at his bedside at City Hospital when doctors turned off the life support machine.
