Official procedure is inform D.O.M. if you cannot obtain delivery by specified time.
D.O.M. should give item for delivery by driver who does your 2nd bag drops and who has P.D.A so delivery is
confimed within timescale. (simples)
If D.O.M. persists with his own version ask to be referred to his line manager or S.O.M.
Your union rep isn't clued in and should seek advice from the branch sec to clarify situation.
good luck be firm.

Re: Phone in to Confirm your Specials
ask your dom if he will also shell out for you to have mobile phone insurance as you feel getting it out on show to confirm special deliveries could lead to someone trying to steal it and if that happens will royal mail replace it, or if its raining and it gets water damaged.

Re: Phone in to Confirm your Specials (UPDATE)
In our office specials (up to a max of 8) are done by the walker (larger ones obviously go on the vans)POSTMAN wrote:Just realised we've got 2 fecking threads on this, was there any need?
Moving on from my moan,if i had to work in some of your offices i'd have to leave the job ffs.
Why the hell are the walkers still doing specials when there are PDA's for the vans, and why are you phoning or not phoning them as the case may be in ffs!
Specials should be on the vans end of,that's why the company invested the millions it did on the PDA's!
SDD should of sorted this as well.
No walkers have PDA's.
So, are you saying that is not right?

No.what i meant was, when you are reposting the special surely if they had a pda in the post office you are reposting.DGP1 wrote:I think he meant that every delivery officer should have a PDA and that way there would be no need to phone anything in.Straight4ward wrote:wf wroteYou've lost me.Simple anwer is to put a pda in every postoffice counter - - - - that way no one will have to phone in
Then all they would have to do is scan the thing and confirm it hasnt been delivered .no more phoning in issues

Only if you're not out beyond 1pm, plus soon everyone will be returning to the DO and pouching off will stop (at least according to what I've read from Infinity and Beyond agreement).wf wrote:No.what i meant was, when you are reposting the special surely if they had a pda in the post office you are reposting.DGP1 wrote:I think he meant that every delivery officer should have a PDA and that way there would be no need to phone anything in.Straight4ward wrote:wf wroteYou've lost me.Simple anwer is to put a pda in every postoffice counter - - - - that way no one will have to phone in

Each office seems to be different, there is obviously a problem with walkers doing specials,it's a bit silly.hampshireman wrote:In our office specials (up to a max of 8) are done by the walker (larger ones obviously go on the vans)POSTMAN wrote:Just realised we've got 2 fecking threads on this, was there any need?

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

"It's a bit silly" sums up virtually everything to do with RM management.POSTMAN wrote: Each office seems to be different, there is obviously a problem with walkers doing specials,it's a bit silly.

Re: Phone in to Confirm your Specials
Must confess that since the re-sign, I am often out on the road well beyond 1400, so I text in the specials satus...
Is there an official claim form/procedure for re-claiming the text cost?
Makes you wonder why a member of the "cage" staff is not put on a "phone every postie with specials and obtain status" duty everyday i.e. RM pays for the phonecalls if they do not want to issue all posties with basic work mobiles!
