FEDUP POSTIE WHAT EVER YOU DO DON'T TOUCH THE PENSION. PRIVATE PRNSION'S ARE BASED ON THE PERFORMANCE OF THE STOCK MARKET YOU MAY CONTRIBUTE FOR YEAR'S AND GET SWEET FA BACK. UNLIKE OUR SCHEME WHICH IS FINAL SALARY BASED AND INDEX LINKED (INFLATION PROOF). WHICH IS THE VERY REASON COMPANYS WANT SHOT OF THEM. IN A NUTSHELL A PRIVATE PENSION IS YOUR RESPONSABILITY AND A FINAL SALARY PENSION IS THE COMPANY'S. EXCUSE ME WHILE I LAY DOWN WITH A COLD TOWEL ON MY HEAD.

PART OF YOUR UNION SUBS GOES TO THE LABOUR PARTY TO HELP FUND POLITICAL ACTIVITY SUCH AS CAMPAINING FOR VOTES ETC- UNIONS BELIEVE IT GIVES THEM A BIT MORE CLOUT AND LEVERAGE IN CERTAIN MATTERS. NOT WORKING TO WELL IS IT!!!. IT STILL AMAZES ME HOW MANY POSTIES DON'T KNOW THAT THEY ARE FUNDING THE LABOUR PARTY WEEK AFTER WEEK THROUGH THE SUB'S

They've taken away the 'opt out' box on the membership forms. It's down to the individual to contact their branch and get a form which is sent to the branch who should then forward it to the wages branch. When we did this in our office back in 1999, we had no end of trouble from the then Branch Sec who was a Labour Councillor. He was as obstructive as possible until we threatened to leave the CWU. A trickle of people opting out suddenly became a flood of about 80 people all opting out in one go.jafferpants wrote:PART OF YOUR UNION SUBS GOES TO THE LABOUR PARTY TO HELP FUND POLITICAL ACTIVITY SUCH AS CAMPAINING FOR VOTES ETC- UNIONS BELIEVE IT GIVES THEM A BIT MORE CLOUT AND LEVERAGE IN CERTAIN MATTERS. Personally, as soon as I see in a candidates notes that he or she is STILL a member of the Labour Party, he or she has lost my vote. I don't buy the line that you have to be in it to change it. Even if there ever was such a time when that was possible (which I doubt) it went as soon as Blair took command. The Labour Party has a long and dishonourable tradition of expelling socialists.

I suspect there is at least some truth in the Mirror article, absolutely outrageous.
Of course by making us work 5 years longer they know that many a postie will drop before retirement age.
They made a mess of it and now we have to pay the consequences for their mistakes.
One thing I would say is that it was inevitable that the pension scheme would have to change for new starters. I`ve no problem with that. If you don`t like the lack of a pension scheme, or just don`t think it`s a good one, then don`t join RM.
But for all those already employed by RM our pensions should be protected along with the option to retire at 60. That`s what we signed up to.
If this article is based on truth then it will outrage people more than any crap pay rise or any number of strings attached.

Once again the working man is being walked over by employers, you never see bosses loosing their pensions, and all done under goverment direction, goverments in the past have taken £5.2 billion in profits earned by RM, a Labour goverment lends RM £1.2 billion in return for savings within RM, and wheres the quickest way to make savings, US, it really doesnt surprise me ive seen this coming for a few years now, but if you think about it, it doesnt make sense, RM arent making any part timers up to full time, so really there arnt going to be any new starters, they also eventualy want a 75% part time workforce who probably wont be bothered with a pension, so how are they going to maintain the pension contributions to already retired postal staff, i dont know, theres more to this than meets the eye...UNITY IS STRENGTH.

TO: ALL BRANCHES WITH POSTAL MEMBERS
Dear Colleague
Pensions
Branches will be aware of the article that appeared in both the Daily Mirror and the Guardian today regarding Royal Mail’s proposals to introduce inferior pension arrangements for both existing and new employees.
We are aware that Royal Mail have issued briefings claiming that the story is not true. We have now been able to obtain a copy of the leaked document and have attached a full copy to this LTB. The document confirms the accounts of both the Daily Mirror and the Guardian are accurate. Moreover, it demonstrates once again the complete lack of integrity in Royal Mail’s approach.
It is essential that branches expose Royal Mail’s dishonesty to all members.
The pension issue is one of the central points in our dispute with the company and the Union will continue to ensure that our members’ pensions will be protected by all means possible.
Further information will be sent out in due course.
Yours sincerely
Dave Ward
Deputy General Secretary (P)

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

I CAN CONFIRM THAT THE DOCUMENT WAS DUE TO BE SENT OUT TO EVERY ONE ON JULY THE 13 BUT WAS PULLED AT THE LAST MINUTE WHEN THEY REALISED THEY WOULD HAVE BREACHED THE 6 MONTH CONSULTATION LAW WHICH DOES NOT EXPIRE UNTILL THE END OF SEPTEMBER. A POINT OF INTEREST FOR LEGAL MINDED AMONGST US. THE STATEMENT YOU GET ONCE A YEAR LIST THE BENEFITS YOU HAVE BUILT UP TO DATE. ONE OF THE BENEFITS IS THE PENSION IS TAKEN AT 60. HOW THEN CAN THIS NOW BE WITHDRAWN.AS FAR AS I'M AWARE PENSIONS CAN NOT BE CHANGED RETROSPECTIVLY.

I think it does. I'm sure Labour Party candidates in local elections have their deposit paid if they are CWU members.biggazza wrote:also i think im correct in saying a percentage of your contribution gets repaid to the branch to help in local political mattersjafferpants wrote:PART OF YOUR UNION SUBS GOES TO THE LABOUR PARTY TO HELP FUND POLITICAL ACTIVITY SUCH AS CAMPAINING FOR VOTES ETC- UNIONS BELIEVE IT GIVES THEM A BIT MORE CLOUT AND LEVERAGE IN CERTAIN MATTERS.
