Hmm. You've voluntarily given up any rights to CWU representation or benefits as you keep reminding everyone, so more like your constant references to the CWU is BS.If the CWU recommend it you won't be reading it then, will you?![]()
Eh? More bullshit from Tman
You just worry about yourself from now on, and if you get lonely, you can plan that party you promised for POMC's closure..

Re: RING THIS NUMBER TO CANCEL UNION SUBS
ive been in the union for 30 years nearly been on strike more times than i can rember but never a penny from the union in hard times
i noticed it goes up all the time
during them 1 day strikes the union even asked asked me to give 10% of my days pay if it was my day off i thort that was an insult cosidering i was losing a days pay anyway
i thort we had to ring wages to stop our pay to the union
i will certainly be doing this as ive had not one penny from them in 30 years wen times were hard years ago we were on strike for weeks not one penny did they give
wen i was a rep years ago we use to go on a weeks course all paid for drank daily and voted at conference if we were able to sorry cwu my subs are ended

What did you expect, a strike fund then?michael r postie"]ive been in the union for 30 years nearly been on strike more times than i can rember but never a penny from the union in hard times
Conversely, do you think it costs nothing to run a national union, with admin costs, courses, grants and death benefits, etc?
Another one with somewhat naive concepts of union membership...

Although you're right about the expense of running the Union. It does seem like a reasonable request, to have a Strike Fund, for when Strikes go on for a long time. Not neccessarily in one go. But when there are a number of 1 day Strikes too. Although, it should be reserved for those who get into financial difficulties. And obviously wouldn't be anything like what we normally get.
Didn't the NUM have a Strike fund, to help people survive during their Strikes?

Re: RING THIS NUMBER TO CANCEL UNION SUBS
They ALWAYS mention a hardship fund which any CWU member can apply to through their rep, so there is a strike fund of a kind its just that not everyone knows about it, or that its aimed at only those in difficulty.

Re: RING THIS NUMBER TO CANCEL UNION SUBS
Maybe they could've used some of the £5,000,000 they've donated to the Labour party over the last 10 years.Tman wrote:What did you expect, a strike fund then?michael r postie"]ive been in the union for 30 years nearly been on strike more times than i can rember but never a penny from the union in hard times

It turns out, that they already do, Numan. Although I didn't know about it, until I read Teebs post. Perhaps it should be better publicised, for those that need it.

Re: RING THIS NUMBER TO CANCEL UNION SUBS
Tom Jackson almost bankrupted the union in 1971 using the hardship fund but that was after almost 7 weeks all out.andy2007 wrote:It turns out, that they already do, Numan. Although I didn't know about it, until I read Teebs post. Perhaps it should be better publicised, for those that need it.
The stoppage lasted seven weeks and cost the Post Office an estimated £25 million in lost revenue. But the shortage of mail never seemed to bite in the way that Jackson had expected. To win emphatically, he needed the backing of the telephonists - but their union refused positive aid. Jackson's union, moreover, had no strike fund; and, when he appealed to comrades in other unions for help, he found that the fraternal spirit - and ready cash - was in short supply.
With his union facing bankruptcy, Jackson was forced back to the negotiating table after admitting that there was no money left to make any more hardship payments to the 30-40,000 members who had no income at all.

And here they are facing the same fate with the monies spent for totally different reasons.fishtank wrote:Tom Jackson almost bankrupted the union in 1971 using the hardship fund but that was after almost 7 weeks all out.andy2007 wrote:It turns out, that they already do, Numan. Re: RING THIS NUMBER TO CANCEL UNION SUBS
Surely that situation could be avoided, if the payments were restricted to people who were at risk of being evicted/having their Home reposessed.

Yes Andy the NUM did have a hardship fund and it was used during strikes........andy2007 wrote:Although you're right about the expense of running the Union. I believe that the CWU should have no political alliance personally, how can you be paying into the coffers of any organisation who you are in dispute with
Whilst we are on the subject £100,000 for the leader of the union god knows how much other top officials get.... way out of line IMHO should be getting half of that, more for the hardship fund, please don't tell me about all the good work they do cause i deffinately don't see any of that
