Re: Wool pulled over 1 in 4 sats off !!
No one has had the wool pulled over them. Royal Mail are going to honour the 1 in 4 Saturdays off and there will be options for less. In fact the union is currently insisting that the wallington system (one week off in six ) is included within the menu of options where as Royal Mail are saying that the wallington system does not produce one in four saturdays off.
There are number of meetings this week including a joint regional and Divisional reps meeting this Friday which will hopefully have a deployment plan in place by then.
Now in terms of working 8 hours , well if you work 40 hours and you work a 5 day week with a shorter Saturday attendance then I presume you work more than 8 hours on the days you work which are not a saturday and possibly balance your hours over 6 weeks.
A 9 day fortnight option which delivers 1 in 4 Saturdays off and there are two 9 day fortnight options which means you will work an 8 hour 54 day. In the main it means you have to fund an extra rest day cover 1 duty in 9 duties being absorbed to fund it. For that you get an extra day off per fortnight then the 5 day week and one in 4 four Saturdays off. Plus on one option you get every four weeks from Thursday to wednesday off.
Now will it mean you have a longer attendance on a Saturday yes it does but under walk sequencing you will have that in any case.
Now in terms of whether it can work in your office , yes you will have a longer day but you have more time off. Plus you will have to share the ips , prep and delivery of one duty between 8 other duties.
You have always had to self fund improved attendances. Do you really think that Royal Mail who want to cut 24 000 jobs would then give 12 000 new rest day cover duties so every office would have 1 in 4 saturdays off ?
That did not happen when you got the 5 day week in 2003.
So no one was pulling the wool over anyones eyes.

the whole thing is going to be very hard to achieve. when i moved offices recently i moved from fixed day off to rotating day and i much prefer it, i had tuesday the worst day off. i can see everything being messed up and there will always be someone who is worse off and that just is not right.

Look, the most nonsensical thing to emerge from this latest farce the CWU have "won" for it's beleagured members, is of all the days of the week, Saturdays has been decided by those who never work a minute of 'em, to be the one day where postal workers will be forced to work longer and harder.
Saturdays, a day when almost everybody who doesn't work on Saturday, will almost certainly be anywhere but at home in the afternoon waiting for their postman to deliver their daily quota of shyte.
Saturdays, a day on which the vast majority of businesses will be closed, as they always have been.
This will result in a helluva lot packets, which had a fairly decent chance of reaching waiting recipients, being brought back because the public won't want to wait indoors to well in the afternoon. An utter farce, and if anyone from RM/CWU management dares mention the word "efficiency" to me ever again, I'll deck them.
KEEP SATURDAYS AS THEY ARE, OR GET RID OF SATURDAY WORKING COMPLETELY.

Is this another thing not sorted out during 5 months of talks?
I'm sure i read somewhere that staff could retain their normal Saturday attendance and not be involved in the "1 in 4",is this still the case? If i don't want to work longer Saturdays i'll still be affected by this system anyway because the office will have less staff for ips etc, will my round be made shorter to accomodate this,or will the "1 in 4's" complete my duty as well as their extra? Or is it just cut off and screw the customer again?

Dirty Harry if you got your wish of no saturdays what would it look like. No more rest day covers , No need for collections on Friday afternoon , No mail centre duties on friday nights , no rdc duties over the same period. What happens on bank holiday weekend . Add all that up and you possibly looking at 30 000 job losses.
It will never happen because the biggest customers who post the mail like to use Saturdays to have their mail delivered .
Now I am sorry the union did every thing possible to avoid longer Saturdays but not only would it have been a deal breaker but Royal Mail would have introduced longer saturdays in any case as walk sequencing would take place on Saturdays. In any case how could an office have a duty structure geared up for Monday to Friday with walk sequencing and then a different structure for Saturdays when the staff would have been reduced in the first place under the walk sequencing revision ?
By the way the decision on removing Saturdays from the universal service obligation rests with the House of Commons and not post comm under the potal services act so you would not even be allowed to ballot for strike action as it would be deemed a politcal strike and therefore against the law,
You see its easy to say no sitting behind a PC but what happens when no is not enough to win the argument ?

Re: Wool pulled over 1 in 4 sats off !!
Just the usual groaning from those who refuse to work to their hours.
Our boss was saying yesterday that we will soon be absorbing the first day of sick. I said that is fine as long as there is time. He said regardless of whether its friday or how heavy it is, we are expected to absorb the duty, that is the way the business is. I said that is fine as long as their is time within our hours.
They can say all they want to us and you should expect it, but it doesn't and never overides employment law.
Just chill out and stand up for yourselves and stick together by doing the job right. The natural standard will come out when everyone does it right and things will get better.
They can put anything they want onto my saturday but I will still be working my time, end of.

I think if you read the original post banner you will realise it has sod all to do with refusing to work your hours and everything to do with RM doing things their way while the union stands twiddling it's thumbs.......again.banner18 wrote:Of course, but then what is the point of crying about RM not playing straight with you if you wont play straight with them?hummingbird's_wings wrote:Really ? it's possible to refuse to work your hours ?banner18 wrote:Just the usual groaning from those who refuse to work to their hours.

Then why complain about what you think or have heard they are gonna do? If you do your hours why do you care? (to the original post btw) Extra, extra work? What extra if you work your hours? Only the people that don't have something to fear.fishtank wrote:I think if you read the original post banner you will realise it has sod all to do with refusing to work your hours and everything to do with RM doing things their way while the union stands twiddling it's thumbs.......again.banner18 wrote:Of course, but then what is the point of crying about RM not playing straight with you if you wont play straight with them?hummingbird's_wings wrote:Really ? it's possible to refuse to work your hours ?banner18 wrote:Just the usual groaning from those who refuse to work to their hours.

i thought the whole point of a forum was to express your opinions , presumably this is why people "complain" about what they think , if nobody cared , then nobody would post .banner18 wrote:Then why complain about what you think or have heard they are gonna do? I don't like the deal, but when the menu of options come out, give them a chance for gawds sake!
No good sitting on your hands, work your nuts off to get the best deal available. The ball is in OUR court, not RM's.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
