Or am I missing something?
Yes you are completely missing the point.
To enable 1 in 4 saturdays or better you will have to "self fund" them.
What does self fund mean?
Well if 25% or even more of your delivery office is off on any given saturday who does their work?
Are.....you.......starting.....to.....see.....now? :cuppa

Of course you could force/ask your part-timers if THEY want their weekends ruined. :chuckle :chuckle :d'oh!

That's not right Fishtank.............the agreement gives you 1 in 4 saturdays as part of the moving forward and family friendly policy, to get more than 1 in 4 you'll need to do the things you state but the 1 in 4 in guaranteed within the new agreement, our DOM is scratching his head and wondering how he will do it but no-one in our office is going to do an extra 1/4 round to give anyone else an extra saturday off.........so can anyone else provide a sensible answer to my question as unfortunately Fishtank didn't! :Boo hoo!

Yes you're missing that element from the last agreement which said "considerably shorter Saturdays" - still that wasn't adhered to either - lets just get on and do whatever is necessary to keep the job going for as little money as possible, with as much work as possible and not worry about simple things such as terms and conditions.

Saturday Attendances
In addition to the above it is jointly recognised that Saturday attendances and in particular the number of Saturdays worked require special attention in order to meet the aspirations of employees and the needs of the business.
In recognition of this Royal Mail and CWU commit to providing more Saturday off options as part of improved attendance patterns for delivery employees. We have jointly explored and identified a number of options/opportunities to maximise the number of Saturdays off.
Whilst the precise number of Saturdays off and the aspirations of employees will vary from unit to unit, both parties believe we can deliver cost effective and reliable options that will maximise the number of Saturdays off for those who wish them. Royal Mail and CWU commit to achieving at least 1 in 4 Saturdays off for the majority of employees (including reserves) during the roll out of the operational transformation programme. In some circumstances this may be exceeded utilising jointly identified options to provide 1 Saturday off in 2 or 3.
Progress on all the issues/objectives above will be jointly monitored and reviewed at national level on an ongoing basis.

The menu of options has been sent to Royal Mail for their agreement , Bob Gibson has set out the menu of options to divisional reps and they have sent them out to area reps.

The following options are included in them

1. 2 in 6 Saturday`s off in a rotating day off system with a short day on tuesday. The hours per day apart from Tuesday are 8.30

2. 2 in 6 saturday`s off in wallington system ( 1 week off in 6. ) 48.30 working week.

3. Wallington plus 1 week off in six with a short week as well.

4. 2 rotating full time 4 and half day duties with fixed part time cover ( saturday plus monday ) one in every two saturdays and monday off. 8.30 hour day.

5. 2 in in 6 1 in 3 saturdays off in 5 day rotating day off system. 8.5 hour days.

6. 4 day weeks on 3 week week rotation covering two deliveries all full time duties. 10 hour day.

7. 4 day duty doing extra prep of part time duties has 1 in 3 saturdays off. ( 10 hour days )

8. 9 day fortnight option 6 plus 3. This option allows for one in four saturdays off but every 4 weeks you get Thursday , Friday , Saturday , Monday , Tuesday and Wednesday off in a row. 8 hour 45 day.

9, 9 day fortnight option 5 plus 4. this option gives you one in three saturdays off. Once every 4 weeks you get Friday , Saturday and monday off in a row. 8.45 hour days.

So the menu will explain this options and of course your divisonal and area rep will assist

In short you have to fund the new duties in the same way as you did the five day week but i think everyone will say that no one would now want to go back to six day working and from experience i know that once indivduals get a 4 day week they never want to give it up. All be it some do need convincing in the first place to go to a four day week. But hey some needed convincing to stop working 6 days.

The list of options Dingo provided relates to the following phrase:-

"In some circumstances this may be exceeded utilising jointly identified options to provide 1 Saturday off in 2 or 3"

The 1 in 4 is a guarantee without any 'list of options' so wrong again Fishtank :Boo hoo! :Boo hoo! :Boo hoo! :Boo hoo!

If you don't know I'd rather you kept quiet, it's people who know what they're doing I need to hear from!

"The 1 in 4 is a guarantee" ????
Oh please, don't make me laugh ...the wording of the agreement is ......."Royal Mail and CWU commit to achieving at least 1 in 4 Saturdays off for the majority of employees (including reserves) during the roll out of the operational transformation programme."
It's only a commitment ......and anyone who's worked for this company for more than six months know's what that means

Hold tight, the SWW is not straight away,it's when you have your delivery methods/walk sequencing revisions. As is the 1 in 4 sats off as well.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
