Jimmy Carr`s laugh wrote:Yeah thats understood, but how do we fit into an 8hr day what we currently do now, plus `extra IPS` plus `extra prep` on the rounds whos men are off, and apparently take an `extra half a round` as well , oh not forgetting our `lapsing` thats starts next week for 30 weeks, and the `d2d` that when it starts will be 6 days a week and the alleged `saturday special d2d` that have to go saturday to every house ??
Cant work, wont work Nonsensical !! The person who came up with the idea clearly has no idea how to staff somewhere
Imporved attendances work in Royal Mail.
For example if you move to a 4 day week then if you collaspe one 8 hour duty between 4 other duties you have appoxmately 6 hours and 50 mins work to be shared amongst the 4 duties. As you dont need the meal relief or the travelling to and from delivery as you already have both of those within your own duty. A 4 day week means you go from an 8 hour day to a 10 hour day so you have more hourage within your duty to do the IPS , Prep and delivery of the duty which has been collasped as you pick up a quarter of that duty.
What is the problem with that concept. I suggust you ask those who have 4 day weeks or 9 day fortnight about whether they work or not and whether the members like them or not. I know from my own experience they do.
However I also recognise that change is not easy . Some members opposed the 5 day week and wanted to stay working 6 days but I doubt there will be any one who would want to go back to 6 day working now. Oh and the CWU got that for staff but I guess some of you think that was a mistake as well.

Yes the 6 day week I was talking about is not the wallington system but working 6 days per week every week as the vast majority of delivery staff did up to the SDD agreement in 2003 which was led by Dave Ward and Bob Gibson.
4 day weeks are the bollox guys, yes you work harder but the time off is well worth it.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been. My BFF Clash The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
Im not interested in a 4 day week 10 hour day. So where will the time come from an 8 hour shift on a saturday to do my duty + half of another, no chance at all. All this with slower walking speeds due to HCTs or other trolleys. I think I'll be ok if I have 200 calls.
Its got disaster written all over it, particularly when the handbacks start rolling in at 2pm on a saturday when there's no manager there to deal with them
It's a 1/4 of a duty not 1/2.
At my place we had on the 5 day week some duties that were not up to spec, now we all have them let's be honest, there is enough moaning about it on here.
Now if you work hard enough designing the new duties you could get them under 4hrs,on paper at least.
Add part timers work with the extra IPS and prep to lump up indoor work, you could have a goer, but it does depend on how much you want it and how hard are you prepared to work things out to get it.
But that would be the same with all the formulas, when they eventually come out that is.

Ignore,also it's a 10hr day not 8.
Wait for the formulas, then go from there.

Postman, its a 10 hour day for anyone who does 4 day weeks yes.
But not everyone wants 4 day week 10 hour shifts, Im happy with 5 day week 8 hour day as will countless others, as I have kids who need picked up from school at 3.15.
In fact very few peeps in my office fancy a 10 hour shift and all it will incur.

Its a possibility and if Dingo, Lovejoy and the Truth are right it should be an option which the membership could decide on. As I see it as long as the numbers of hours in their budget is not increased from the agreed revisions/replots then the membership of the office can decide on the attendance patterns and be able to choose which one is the most popular.

So who makes the decision if an office moves to 4 day weeks or not.
How will it affect part timers, or do they not count, being losers?

2 Ways of doing it outlines below but in essence yes you should have a voice.
1. Both management and Union have input and they come to an agreed recommendation which is put to a vote where all CWU members have an equal vote.
2. Or the Union discuss matters with members who come to a consensus after a vote and the reps take that to management and they thrash out the details

The time the mail into your DO will surely determine your delivery length.
If you don't get mail until 7am then a 10 hr day would take you to 5pm.
If the last letter has to be delivered by 3pm what would you do for 2 hrs?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Drink coffee, surf ebay, watch tv. If you need any more suggestions, just ask your DOM.
