There are many of those types realmick, who CAN do it, for a day or two, and point to that achievement and say how easy it is - the trick is doing it day after day, month after month, year in year out, in hail, rain, snow and shine. THAT is the real achievement, you know the old adage realmick, those who can do - those who can't, talk about it.

I'm going to stick my neck out here,at my place the work is nowhere as much as a couple of years ago.
Walks that would take 3-15hrs are well below the 3hr mark,i would say 2-45hrs.

Now this may be a London thing i don't know, but i think we have to be honest when it comes to the traffic we get now.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

You might moan loud but the fact is that your job depends on having enough work to fill your day.
Christ almighty!!!!
What year are you living in? After the 2003 SDD agreement, the 2007 pay & modernisation agreement, and now this 2010 and beyond crap, I have enough work to fill my feckin' day, every day. While you're sitting on your arse talking hot air somewhere at 2.00pm, I'm to be found on my round out delivering copious amonts of shyte, including that bane of everybody's lives, Door2feckin'Door, I'm footsore, and the fatigue and exhaustion I feel, that other colleagues feel, I wish you could have a taste of, I really do.
For me, and tens of thousands of posties the length and breadth of the country, the top-notch, wonderful job we had, and our customers really appreciated, completely flew out the proverbial window the very minute the ink was dry on the SDD deal.
What you're doing, the CWU are doing, is dancing to the tune of shysters like Crozier, Higson, and Tolhurst. They've taken you lot for fools, twisted you lot around their little fingers, and now have you lot looking as if you're nothing more than their enforcers in our workplace, and for that, you've sold out a huge number of the membership.
If I had the misfortune to be in any way, shape, or form, connected, implicated in the entire corrupt farce, I'd be hanging my head in shame, not coming on here having a go at people like dvbuk, myself, or anybody else fed-up to the back teeth with continually seeing their working conditions get progressively worse.
Wake up, pal.....Nothing is ever enough for your new masters, nothing, appeasing those cretins will only ensure that the current trend of decreasing numbers of postal workers being in the union will continue untill, well, until there is no point at all in a wretch like Higson wanting to even pass the time of day with you because you will be so unrepresentive, somebody of no consequence at all. And that day will come, and judging by your stance, and the stance of the two buffoons at the very top, sooner, rather than later. :cuppa
Well said DH, best post I've read on here for a long time :Applause :Applause

I hear what you are saying Postman and maybe in London in really has gone down by as much as you say

This could be down to couriers and/or our competitors cherrypicking in the capital it is more than possible

but where I am I can hand on heart say that volumes have not gone down no matter what we are told

5 years ago I had 4 bags 5 on a busy day now I have 8 on a normal day and up to 12 on a busy day, and because I am a good postie that delivers their d2d's week in week out I always get the maximum of 3 ( well the old maximum)

I think this is the crux of the problem, the people making desicions on our behalf are basing things on London

well newsflash - there is a whole lot of places outside London and things are not the same

We possibly require some sort of helpline in regards to this agreement.I thinks it's well overdue. The helpline would be open to all members.HQ could then chase it up with the branch as soon as possible. We would then find the "rogue" element in management and branches. This would of course be in relation to the new agreement only. It seems there are offices with huge issues, not just now,but with older agreements. The new one is not going to work if the older agreements are not being adhered to or branches who cannot be bothered.

Same here - or it would be except for one thing. There are now 50 posties doing what 80 did a couple of years ago. OK letter volume may have dropped, but no houses have been pulled down!
Where one postman delivered 1000 items to 500 houses then, now he delivers 1500 items to 900 houses. So there's less mail PER HOUSE but more work per postman per hour.
I think some places must not have had walk revisions for donkeys years.

Only a slight drop where I work, but welcome all the same. I left my office at 10.00am this morning, got back at 14.15, 4hrs15mins on the road, that's more than enough for anyone.

The thing is this new agreement is total bull$!t as delivery spans will not exist and we are at the mercy of any backstabbing manager intent on a bonus to boost his pension!.

No houses being pulled down where I live, only more being built. Nearly every walk in my office has new builds gone up or going up in the near future. They are filling in the gaps and selling off schools for new estates. Less posties and a lot more work!

I finish before my time most days, after the revision, no chance. I'll be taking my breaks when i'm supposed to and walking at a reasonable pace and not cutting corners.

But I know plenty at my office who just wont do that.

It will be interesting to see how they make that work. I'm under no illusions, I start at 6.00am, I finish at 3.00pm, that's all my DOM needs to know, if he decides he will choose to ignore that salient fact, more fool him. I don't do, never have, never will, free overtime.
