Work your hours, get your pay. Stop fretting so much about the deal. It will come and go, and we will adapt and get used to it. Anyone one who thought there wasn't going to be a major shake up with automation on the agenda were quite frankly, deluded.

dingo wrote:Wow dirty harry powerful stuff . Never mind when you start getting your door to door on a Saturday or you get your revision proposals or you refuse to do them and get charged under the conduct. Code please feel free to ring dvbuk rather than the Cwu as he seems to have got some great terms and conditions in his workplace .

It is time to get real dealt with a number of disagreements in your area today and believe me you need door to door into workload in your area to mantain jobs due to the mount having one of the highest mech levels in the uk .

You might moan loud but the fact is that your job depends on having enough work to fill your day.

I already have more than enough work to fill my day have had for years and yes I receive the mythical 3 d2d a week ( soon to rise to 6)

I also now have an extra £150 a year due to dumping a defunct union that didn't care that I was a 'loser' under this deal

and as for this part 'Never mind when you start getting your door to door on a Saturday '

I thought you repeatedly told us this was a long way off????? that sentence sounded like goading to me

the union has shot itself in the foot and is only now realising it

and as for handing it to the management by pulling out of the union

yes we have, well done CWU

the only comfort will be seeing those that told us to vote yes working as long as us on a saturday because they no longer have full time release

As this, ahem, "small dip" in membership will lead to a "small dip" in union funds, will this be reflected in the next CWU officials pay negotiations? Does this "reality check" extend to their pay packets or will they simply increase our subs?

Let have a look at some of the responses , very perdictable .

Suddenly everyone has enough work to fill all their duty. If you had enough work to fill your duty why do you except absorbtion ? Why do you acccept that jobs can go ?

Lets be honest I was in West London yesterday and with some local reps and we were trying to get some part timers made up to full timers. The problem was that in those 3 offices they were clearing every day , having absorbtion as well and most of them were coming in early chasing time out of the job.

London is no different from every area in that some of our members still believe in chasing time. Allan Leighton when he wrote the letter saying job and finish would be in place under SDD did so becuase he went to loads of different offices where the staff wanted this issue.

Under pay and mod that was removed and Royal Mail want to people to work the hours they are paid for. Thats why they bought in absorbtion. No union can argue for members to get time out of the job those days are long gone. If you want good wages then you have to work your hours.

The facts are that Royal Mail believe that currently 90% of all delivery work is done before 12.30 now that is recorded by their panellists etc. They pay no attention to the fact that people drive their cars on delivery come in before time , sneak out and perform some of their delivery before the missort retrival or work their meal relief.

Now if some really do have enough work so for example have an 8 hour day duty which has 3.5 hour delivery span , 30 mins travelling and 40 min meal relief and then 3 hours 20 mins IPS and Prep. What happens when your IPS shrinks because all the letters go straight to the sequencing machine , or your flats go to the flat sorting machine. Plus you dont get your second 40% of your prep into your office until 0900 or as late as 10.

Your IPS hourage will shrink and your prep time will shrink. So if the union had stuck to a delivery span of 3.5 hours we would have a mainly part time industry. Longer delivery spans not only protect full time jobs but can also increase part time hours. So for example if a part timer is employed on 20 hours to perform a delivery based on .3.5 hour span with travelling time over 5 days then clearly if the span is now 4 hours in that office plus 30 mins travelling then extra hours are needed for the part timers.

Now if some part timers already work above their hours on a constant basis well of course this hourage should be factored into the revison as clearly the offices is working above the TM1 hourage. I have to say that is easy to record and should mean that some of these part timers have the offer of extra contract hourage.

Now in terms of the joint statement on deliveries it will claify what is going to happen and what talks are needed. Royal Mail have a target date for increasing door to door to 4 items of the end of june as they have to get their sales people to try and drum up the bussiness which means they have to under cut TNT and the mail merge bussiness.

Yes Yes - but we've heard it all before - from Royal Mail.

That is not what you want to hear from people who are supposed to be defending pay and conditions. I think the only people who don't realise that the workload is shrinking and with it the workforce is the CWU.

Where have they been for the last two years and more? The office I work in is already 60/40, and many others have an even greater split AND THAT IS NOT GOING TO CHANGE unless you lose staff and increase delivery time to ridiculous proportions - but that scenario doesn't seem to concern the union BUT it does concern the workforce.

The union isn't fighting for its members, it's wittering and playing at the role of representation. Royal Mail has become the bell header and the CWU leadership has become the flock.

Listen to yourselves. Nothing like painting yourselves into a corner. I go on holiday for a few days and you're fighting amongst yourselves. In just a few weeks this forum has gone from "we can only win" to imploding. Royal Mail management will lap it all up on their coffee break.

Only if they do selective reading quite as much as you do :arrrghhh .

I mean I have heard of spinning to make sure everything stays on message, but only reading or acknowledging posts that back up your own warped view of this forum is taking it too another level.

How can 90% be done before 12:30? That means Royal Mail think 90% of posties are making near on 2 hours a day in time?

Come now Dingo, i really cannot accept that you believe this is true.

It's all bullshit, i'm supposed to be 30hrs now but could easily go over by an hour plus everyday, who ever dreams up all these figures about finishing before 12.30 must live in the land of make believe.

I take out what i think will take me to my contracted hours even then i still go over by 10 - 15 minute it's a joke, as for door to doors, there's simply not enough time to do them i've still got 2 weeks worth under the frame.

Even the union bods like dingo think deliveries are finishing early and having whale of a time - he who professes to be visiting delivery offices day in day out and knows the score - well all I can say is he doesn't get far enough out often enough.

Christ almighty!!!!
What year are you living in? After the 2003 SDD agreement, the 2007 pay & modernisation agreement, and now this 2010 and beyond crap, I have enough work to fill my feckin' day, every day. While you're sitting on your arse talking hot air somewhere at 2.00pm, I'm to be found on my round out delivering copious amonts of shyte, including that bane of everybody's lives, Door2feckin'Door, I'm footsore, and the fatigue and exhaustion I feel, that other colleagues feel, I wish you could have a taste of, I really do.
For me, and tens of thousands of posties the length and breadth of the country, the top-notch, wonderful job we had, and our customers really appreciated, completely flew out the proverbial window the very minute the ink was dry on the SDD deal.
What you're doing, the CWU are doing, is dancing to the tune of shysters like Crozier, Higson, and Tolhurst. They've taken you lot for fools, twisted you lot around their little fingers, and now have you lot looking as if you're nothing more than their enforcers in our workplace, and for that, you've sold out a huge number of the membership.
If I had the misfortune to be in any way, shape, or form, connected, implicated in the entire corrupt farce, I'd be hanging my head in shame, not coming on here having a go at people like dvbuk, myself, or anybody else fed-up to the back teeth with continually seeing their working conditions get progressively worse.
Wake up, pal.....Nothing is ever enough for your new masters, nothing, appeasing those cretins will only ensure that the current trend of decreasing numbers of postal workers being in the union will continue untill, well, until there is no point at all in a wretch like Higson wanting to even pass the time of day with you because you will be so unrepresentive, somebody of no consequence at all. And that day will come, and judging by your stance, and the stance of the two buffoons at the very top, sooner, rather than later. :cuppa
