At my DO we go out in vans.. 5 people on mine. Anyway 2 of the people on the bus really do take their time doing their round. I usually finish at least an hour before them.
Is it true you must wait for them to finish and return to the DO on your bus? Am I allowed to bike back to the office or walk back? [its about a mile i reckon back to the office] Would I be allowed to take the time as my meal break [the time it takes me to walk from the end of my round back to the DO]. .
EDIT - Removed the secret bit

good grief!! I wouldn't hang around kicking my heels for an hour waiting for a ride. As long as you have a Royal Mail cycle, a helmet and a hi-vis vest, you should bike back. It is part of your DUTY time, take your meal relief before you go out, or tag it on the end, AFTER you arrive back to the office. Enjpy finishing in your own time, not the time of the slowest guy!
The thing is I don't use a bike on my round.. I have a barrow. So I'll stick my own bike in the van before we leave and I'll wear a high vis when I bike back.
..I'll try and get a helmet, but does that matter if I'm riding my own bike?
Nice one on the Activa by the way!!!! YID ARMY!!!!
Aaron mate.. Have your meal relief BEFORE you go out and do the job properly.. I know you want to get round as quick as poss but listen to all the posties DOING THE JOB AS IT SHOULD BE DONE... By the 318 Take your one bag after weighing it and its under 16kg.. Get the bus or bike it but make sure your drop bags are safe. Dont rush like a nutta and get things wrong... Take your time your still new mate.. When you know all the walks in the office and you have done all the jobs,, Then you will understand how RM works.... I hope you see the sense mate... It saves my and your and all of our jobs if you work to your 318... Dont come in early and think of others who May finish 1 hr later than you... They might be in the job 10 20 30 years and work correctly and are working the way the job should be done!!!! HOPE YOUR OK MATE AND COME ON U SPURS!!!!!!
as long as you are still on duty, then you must have a helmet. It is a sackable offense not to have one. You can order one from the Uniform Hotline yourself. You will have to transport your specials, undelivered parcels and empty sacks back to the DO. Can you manage them on your own bike? Why not take a RM bike out with you in the morning, lock it somewhere securely and collect it at the end of your round?
Yeah I could take them back in a small RM bag which I keep my high vis, water bottle etc in. We have a garage where we get dropped off which has our bikes, barrows, drop bags etc in and we all have keys for it so can use that.
L Tommo - everyone knows he does it, someone said to me its his meal break?
I never go in early either.. i already work more hours than I'm suppose too!!
if i told them i dont want to do the 2.05mins over time they would probably make my start time later.. meaning id have to rush my prep to get out on the bus ontime.. to be out by 9.30.
On my bus there is me and another part timer who start at the sametime 6.50, plus 3 full timers.. 2 of them start at 5.30? and another at 7.45 because of personal reasons but he works till 4.

It matters if you are riding your own bike whilst still at work (i.e. being paid) RM could still be liable should you suffer an accident on duty. The safety rules strictly forbid the use of private cycles, scooters, motorbikes etc.

Bullshit all i see is Leighton and Crozier Bullshit
I have heard before that it is a disiplinary offence if you do not wear a helmet on your cycle. This obviously refers to RM Cycles but if you were to use your own private cycle whilst on duty, I would assume the same measures would exist. Not sure though.
However, having said that, if you are cycling at the busy time of day (Usually when deliverys are) you are wise to wear a helmet anyway, the consequences of having an accident without a helmet on are not worth thinking about. A Helmet could save your life. http://www.brake.org.uk/index.php?p=489
