I agree, but it would be a start. like yourself, I go back a long way, and see myself a died- in -the -wool unionist--and one time (60-80's activist) and old habits die hard. It is thanks to those at the top I've left --and lets remember, if a better leadership was brought in it would filter down the ranks--and maybe a larger % of the reps would once again truly represent the rank and file.(Sorry to the good ones here!) And all the toadying (Replicas of Big B) ones would vanish! One can dream.

I have left the union and would agree and still be in the union if i believed it was a two way thing but it isn't..... The union sacrifised delivery yet again to forge a deal, local and area reps who work in delivery and had their membership pretty much 100% against the deal completely changed their loyalties during the dispute..... They supported the leadership and told us verbaly and constantly by postings to vote a deal in which was not in our interests..... Hence i chose not to support someone who 1. ignored and suppresed my voice 2. actually told me how to vote......That in my opinion is neither democracy or standing together so if the union should fall i believe they have brought it on themselves very sadly.....

YES, providing all reps representsed their members as well, the leadership mearly inform all members of the deal NOT recomend, influence a descision either way!!!! after which a ballot takes place and we all follow the democratic result

As for the date for the first strike I wouldn't like to guess - but it is definitely coming, sooner I would imagine than later. Regardless of the implications of the agreement, there will be wild cats and applications for ballots even with the "new understanding and mutual respect".

Are you having a laugh. Our local rep preps his easy round in the manager's office practically. They are as bad as Ward and Hayes = only ever looking after themselves. And that is the truth old chum.cantbelieveit's... wrote:Why do people think that leaving the union will solve all problems, if anything it will make things worse. billy and dave should be reminded of the united we stand stuff given their 'winners and losers' agreement. i'm hoping if i stay in the union long enough i'll be among the winners, can't wait.

stokes11eg wrote:The problem is was this a truly 'democratic; vote?--I think a big question mark will always hang over the result of this ballot-----if the Union really want to convince the membership, they should look at sending out seperate questionairresto the reps in each individual office, asking briefly how each person voted. these results should be counted independantly, and the results made known. Although a yes was always a possibility, the huge margin of the vote is unbelievable! I can only look at my own office, but most of us have worked together for years and know each other well enough to be honest about how we voted,(Yes we take the mick and tease those who's opinions differ but all in good fun)
and what we have told each other does not tally with the results MMMM![]()
The opinion was the same in our office....but a couple of things i would take into account is am i right in thinking you are as me in delivery? as we seem to have got the worse end of the stick it was a possibility we had a tainted view of the result, also i was surprised to hear from a good amount of folk who were dead against the deal couldn't be bothered to vote!!! For which they have no justification in griping about the deal in my opinion...... But must agree overall i did think the deal would sneak through and was surprised by the majority. However from a personal note i suspect no foul play and accept the result which i put down to appathy and the influence the union put on members to vote yes.
