Scabbing at other RM sites

Post by krooserman1802 »

Colleagues, I have had to talk to delivery staff this weekend, who all do overtime in a Distrbution Centre. They had all put their names down to work from 12 o'clock onwards from Saturday. I have reminded them that there are on strike from 1900 hours Friday until 1900 hours until Saturday, but they seem to think that working somewhere else is okay. I advised them that theyw ould be considered scabbing and the fact that the Distribution Centre is not on strike that day is irrelevant.

We will also have a problem if RM allows them to do overtime in our unit whilst refusing to let our own people return on docket after IA. We really would not like to see anyone in our unit this weekend that isnt employed at the DC, it will make wednesday 1st even more special.

Can you make sure, if you have any people who do overtime in the DC's that they are aware of this. Speaking only for my Unit, we have a lot form North London Branches and Stevenage. Do the business colleagues. I will have names available of all those that work anyway.

Cheers

You're right mate , they will be scabbing.

I don't know , maybe it's because I'm an old git , but am I alone in thinking that a vast swathe of my fellow
countrymen have taken leave of their senses ?

I was talking about this today with a bloke who was reading meters on my walk. The whole notion of solidarity seems to elude very many people today.

You're not wrong , IWW. Seems to me that the whole concept of solidarity with fellow workers , not just in the post ,
but with our brothers and sisters in other industries as well , is totally alien to too many people for my likeing. :mad

Yes mate , and sooner than they can possibly imagine , but , as you quite rightly said , by then it'll be too late.

You're both quite right. A lot of people don't seem bothered about keeping themselves informed about anything these days. They'll believe any old tripe the tabloids throw at them, watch any old tripe the box shows and seem quite content to let others do their thinking for them. A couple of generations ago, people read good books and wanted to educate themselves. As such they were able to challenge things and come up with ideas. I thoroughly recommend 'The Intellectual Life of the British Working Classes' by Jonathan Rose for a look back to the days when workers were not so docile and knew self education could lead to a richer life. They had The Left Book Club and Everyman;s Library. We've got 'Hello' magazine and the Big Brother House. The opium of the masses!

I'm sorry mate! You would enjoy that book though. I have the distinct impression that you are the very sort of person that book is about.

It is and one which applies to a large number of posters on here, except those thick sods, the screws.
