Re: May 7th Lump sum £400 for part timers?
Spoke to some old time FT colleagues down the pub last night, they seem pretty sure that everyone is to get the £400, even those who haven't been in the job too long. Well it would be a nice wee bonus, as I was only expecting £240. Won't bank on it just yet though.

I think you will find they do.LouBarlow wrote:

Even if you buy into the crap abou the CWU being a gravy train and they only care about themselves, (and I don't) then you have to admit that with an increasingly part-time workforce then the CWU would have to take the problems of p/ters seriously or they will not maintain let alone increase the membership levels.
A decrease in numbers = a decrease in revenue = a poorer gravy train.
Then again you might believe that people who in the union are committed to improving the conditions of all their members.
In a declining industry that might sometimes prove a very difficult task.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Well I guess we are going to find out this Thursday when our wage slips arrive and the subsequent acknowledgement or disregard for the particular wording of the agreement:clashcityrocker wrote:I think you will find they do.LouBarlow wrote:

Well far be it for me to point out that membership IS falling and especially with PT members, a part of the workforce which will be on the increase over the next three years, and with the loss of between 12 and 24,000 more, will fall even more. If part timers can only expect "pro-rata" representation which is what they are getting now, there is absolutely no encouragement whatsoever to become involved in union affairs.clashcityrocker wrote:I think you will find they do.LouBarlow wrote:

What we need is a union that UNITES the workforce not separates one group from another.

Re: May 7th Lump sum £400 for part timers?
Why would a part-timer on a 5 hour contract, or even a 20 want to pay for union membership, when all agreements are aimed at satisfying full time members. No mention of any help for those part-timers who want to get a few more hours a week.
We have guys in our office, on 5 hour contracts, who do full time rounds one week, then are given one day the next. When they try and get more hours, they are always turned down, yet the union don't give a toss and focus all their efforts on full-time issues.
I am a full-timer btw, just think the way they are treated stinks.

Re: May 7th Lump sum £400 for part timers?
I think the union are misguidedly believing that RM will actually stick to the 75/25 split, pie in the sky of course but there you are. I mean there may well be a plan to keep union members 75/25, but if that membership represents less than 50% of the total workforce, what price the the agreement then?
As you say there is no incentive for part timers to become members, even full timers aren't exactly included in union affairs.

You can also go to the CWU Website, and arrange for the LTBs to be Emailed to you (I do this). All you need to do, is log on, using your membership number (sometimes you need to prefix it with a zero), and password. Then click on subscribe to recieve LTBs, which is in the top left corner of the screen. Then you should see a screen like this: Just select which LTBs you want to recieve, and click on Submit.POSTMAN wrote:An LTB is a 'Letter To Branches',it is sent to the branch and then they would/should then send them to reps.tragictramp wrote:how many part timers currently work for royal mail?, ill write a petition out lol, or even better if they decide to choose which parts they abide by - then so should us part timers, ill decide to do no d2d. Are us posties supposed to receive the LTB'S?, cos ive never seen 1
The reps would/could then put them on notice boards or if it's an important one, have a meeting with the members.

Re: May 7th Lump sum £400 for part timers?
In the 3 years that i have been a postie ive seen nothing from the cwu that makes me want to part with my hard earned money to join them
everthing except the mail is pro rata even d2d's
But that being said why shouldnt i still be able to vote in any dispute that occurs,it seems that i have to buy a vote which seems disgusting to me when this also affects my future,i hope we do get our bonus this week but nobody seems to have a definitive answer

3 year reward package if read correctly does not mention Pro rata until the last
paragraph
April 2010. For Delivery employees a £20.60 pw permanent supplement to basic pay (pro rata for part time employees).
April 1st 2010. An increase in paid maternity leave from 18 weeks to 26 weeks and an increase in paid paternity leave from one week to two.
Additional Transformation Lump Sums totalling £1000 for employees covered by this agreement (pro rata for part time employees). Annex C gives the detailed trigger points for implementation of the lump sums in each function.
So it would seem that the rewards in YR1,2&3 are to be paid in full to ALL employees

glenno, but the last paragraph on about the grand in seperate lumps, are the transformation lumps. so they are in effect pro rata, whereas the 400 quid is not based on transformation, just that the deal has been voted in.

The Pay rise for 2010, The £400 Transformational Lump Sum, and back pay from 5 Apr 2010 will all be in our Pay for Friday 7th May for weekly Paid employees and Mays Pay for Monthly paid employees.
That was in a LTB
Finally, we can also confirm that the 2% pay increase will be paid on the 7th May 2010, backdated to the 5th April 2010, and for monthly paid employees the 2% increase will be in May salaries. The £400 lump sum (previous ColleagueShare dividend / paid pro-rata part time) due upon ratification of the agreement will also be paid on the 7th May 2010. We do not yet have agreed dates of the implementation of the new basic pay supplements and these will be subject to further discussions in conjunction with the relevant operational issues.
