I've no idea Mrs. BFO but I will be doing my very best to find out.
Anybody else got any ideas?
Whether it is a conversion or not I don't think conversions are a long way away, possibly on a large scale. It's no secret that WHSmith wanted more than the 85 that they ended up with.
Looks like we've got some investigating to do!

"WH Smith area manager Lee James said: "We're looking forward to working in partnership with Post Office Ltd to provide Post Office services for the local community and to bringing an improved service to Romford." :Very Happy but failed to add that it's their normal practice to site the post office counter at the back of an upper floor making it nye on impossible for elderly and dosable customers to access it.

The newspaper article is about the one in South Street, which does look like a Crown office, not this sub office you've found.

It sounds like an ex Crown Office that has been messed up by a succession of dodgy businesses. It’s the WH Smith element that interests me – it appears their experience of the past few years had not put them off, which may be significant for us next year.

As far as I know this stopped being a 'proper' post office years ago, it's franchised, ie fake, so feck 'em I say. :evil/mad

I am all for Crown Offices. :Applause :Applause

Any other little sweet shop that sells stamps next to mars bars for £1, or a Smiths branch which employs 16 year olds on minimum wage and still expects them to sell... I couldn't care less about. Romford included.
If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it.

Looks like we've all got the wrong end of the stick, self included!
Thanks to all of you that have cleared this up.
I'm going to look for another thread now. Have fun.
