Well I'm not the best person to point out exactly where it says it, fishtank is your man for that, but I'm sure that somewhere I read that we had to maintain business class mail delivery times, though exactly how hard and fast that rule is I am not sure.

If your unit is already receiving walk sequenced mail ( arrives in the same order as the prep fitting runs) as opposed to walksorted
(mail arrives in boxes for a walk) then the plan should be to service firms as near as possible to their current times. If you do not
receive W/S mail, then when batches are finalalised, firms duties should be on the first batch. My understanding on RM's view, is that
firms del times should not deviate from their current time as much is practicable, however they would probably say they could have a call
& collect and fetch it from the D.O

Yes & no - Looking to move to 3pm residential for town & 4 pm for rural - Business mails should be delivered at the earliest opportunity,
when you move to W/S mails, the firms should be on the first batch of arrivals at your office

No,your DOM is not right,if you look at the agreement and i can't rem exact where, but the aim is for firms to be done by 12.00,i'm near enough sure of it.

Slight apologies,it wasn't from the agreement but from the now pulled Delivery Duty Design Principles doc.
Which is here...

The doc is being renegotiated, but the chances are stuff like that may be the sameish.
National Service Standards

The following national service standards apply:
Town – no town delivery should have a last letter delivery time later than 15.00

Rurals – no rural delivery should have a last letter delivery time later than 16.00

Bulk Delivery (Large receivers) – no large receiver on a bulk delivery should have a last letter delivery time later than 12.00pm. Every attempt should be made to complete bulk delivery routes as early as possible

When reviewing the potential for bulk delivery route efficiencies it will be necessary to balance any change of delivery time off against what customer expectations / needs are especially for key customers. Rather than double up bulk deliveries it may be preferable to complete the bulk route first and then add on an element of ordinary town residential delivery. This would help minimise customer disruption whilst still filling duty time with productive work.

spilie wrote:or we could shaft the p/t staff even more by dual prepping and sending them out on 4.5 to 6hr deliveries and f/t staff prepping and maybe doing, well, wow 3.5 hr deliveries
I think at some point that this is the way it will be done. I reckon once WS has bedded in across the country and any problems have been ironed out then the next "Modernisation" will be the introduction of Prep and Deliver duties and deliver only duties.

I would envisage something like this:

1. FT comes in around 6am and prep 3 or 4 duties each on same frame with interchangeable street guides.

2. They send out/take out 2 or 3 duties to the "waysiders" these duties being anything from 2 - 3.5 hours.

3. Just like now the prepper will deliver Firms, all Out Size and all tracked/Prios for his block of duties.

4. Then the FT will complete his own walking delivery duty of approx 1.5 to 2 hrs maximum.

This is RMs ultimate aim as it means less FT contracts and therefore less hours to pay. It is loosely based on the "Dutch Model".

What amount of mail would constitute being "bulk delivery " ? 25 items? 50 items? I ask ,because at, present I deliver to a busineess( around 30-40 items) at around 2pm or even later, would the route have to be changed to accommodate this business ??

Do you know something real mick, In the whole of this lengthy debate on modernisation I don't think I've heard Royal Mail and the CWU mention the customer once and how it will improve the service to them.

We've been told the company are poor, we need to modernise, rationalise, start later, finish later, work harder, do more work for nothing, maximise profit BUT at the end of the day is this going to improve the service to the customer - the one they call the King - well I would suggest that it isn't and that would certainly lend credence to your statement.

If RM really cared for the customer, we would be doing first letter 7am and twice over the ground, we are no longer a public service, just interested in maximising profits, and before someone says it's the sender thats the customer not the receiver, most receivers are also senders.
