bigkevmartin wrote:since last thursday the posties at southend all started coming in on time and asking for lifts out and all are taking their meal reliefs as agreed in the sdd revision. the posties are not allowed to protract but have seen more than 100 managers since last week,at one stage 6 posties to one manager all day long.
the posties have been doing what was agreed in there duty structure ,nothing illegal.

the quadrant canteen has never been so busy that they had to have extra staff.
We should have all be doing this from day one :Applause

It is about time everyone did work to rule . I think this would hit them harder than strikes, it would cost them more in the long run because they haven't got the resources anymore due to cut backs in the past i.e doing away with night shifts in DO's and van duties so they have less vans to convey posties to their walks.
At the moment these strikes are costing us and the Royal Mail are saving because they aren't paying out wages and also the work is still being cleared. Surely the union can see this as the best way of hurting Royal Mail.

I go along with the old saying "We are the union" and I believe the union can see the sense in what you suggest, but if people can't see for themselves that doing the job as it should be done will save jobs and improve working conditions, there isn't much hope for the poor souls at the bottom of the seniority list.

The letter from the union does hint at working to time and rules in this bit.
Whatever provocation from Royal Mail managers it is essential that everybody maintains a disciplined approach when taking the action and returning to work.

If the Union suggested it then people would go along with it just as they have done with going out on strike. Its no good one person suddenly doing it in a office if the others don't follow suit .People need pushing and the Union are the ones to do it and make sure they follow it through.

Bob Gibson did specifically mention it in his letter.

Then why aren't the union enforcing it then?

What would you like them to do? Put a guard on every gate to stop the early starters or disable every car users car? Don't you think grown people should have the wit and integrity to do the job as it should be done for their own sake and for the sake of future workers without having to have it spelt out to them?

The CWU cannot announce a date for eveyone to do a Southend as they have not balloted for this,Leighton made this clear in his popaganda letter. It looks like it's too late now Nationally but there is nothing to stop individual offices from balloting for an official work to rule, and I hope many will see the example of Southend and see what can be achieved.

Good Luck Oxford and Southend we are with you 100%

The CWU cannot announce a set date for everyone to do a Southend as the ballot only called for strike action,as Leighton made perfectly clear in his propaganda letter.so it looks like it's too late for that nationally, however there is nothing to stop individual offices from balloting for a work to rule and I hope many see what can be achieved by looking at Southend as an example and following suit.

Good luck Southend we are with you 100%
