Re: RING THIS NUMBER TO CANCEL UNION SUBS
I am the unit rep at my office and I will be sticking around to try and get the best deal for the people in my office. That said I find it practically impossible to find good reasons to dissuade any members from following the above idea. Let's face it, this deal is a total and utter betrayal of the delivery members and anyone who thinks differently is fooling themselves. When I became a unit rep 10 years ago I believed that we as union reps were suppoosed to represent the members views and thereby what the members wanted, it seems these days that the CWU is intent in representing what they think is in our best interests, not the same thing at all. Been at recent Branch committee meeting where they were bemoaning the reduction in membership and how this was, in all liklihood, going to lead to branch amalgamations, this deal brings this ever closer, and it's their own fault! Also listened to a PEC member talking about the same subject, in essence how to save money, and he was at least honest enough to say that if left to HQ the savings would be made at Branch level, as he put it "Turkeys don't vote for Christmas". If there are any decent branches out there don't let them get away with it, if this union needs to make savings then let's get rid of Ward, Hayes and Gibson and work down from there. One final thing do people think now that the delivery issues need negotiating seperately from the others or perhaps the delivery members need a union of their own?

Re: RING THIS NUMBER TO CANCEL UNION SUBS
Mick im a rep myself and mate i couldnt agree with you more.
Delivery have been let down so badly by the CWU that it beggars belief.
Im doing the same as you sticking it out until ive got what the lads want then i am leaving.
If i wasnt the rep i would have left on the 27th the vote should have been seperate for delivery simple as.

Re: RING THIS NUMBER TO CANCEL UNION SUBS
Thanks Mate, What makes this thing all the worse from my point of view is a number of years ago we had Bob Gibson in our unit addressing the members on D2D and the possible changes to them, and he gave our members a catogoric assurance that any changes to D2D would only be voted on by the people who dealt with them. Yet another set of words that didn't mean a damn thing, or if you like a sitution which had to be sacrificed for the greater good, what a joke! I do hope somebody stands against these clowns the next time they are up for re-election, it would do me a power of good to see them out of a job.MoNkEyBoY wrote:Mick im a rep myself and mate i couldnt agree with you more.

Re: RING THIS NUMBER TO CANCEL UNION SUBS
This issue over D2DS now in our work load this is nothink new in the unions eyes, since 1995 they have tried to get D2Ds into our workload.
Im still struggling to get my head around why everyone is getting the payment,as there will be lads in our office getting the £20.60 a week for delivering none and its wrong.
Suppose now its a case of us trying to get the best out of this horrendous deal, pity no one could challenge it and we have a re-vote remember when the way forward agreement was back healed by us they ha a re-vote on that and low and be-hold the second time around it got voted in ballicks springs to mind. Why cant we have the same senario here ive not met one person that has voted yes on this deal and im very suspicous of the count. What was more dissapointing is how many members didnt vote was this a case of they couldnt be bothered or did they not recevie a paper.
Very much doubt dave, billy and bob will be stood against so it looks like we have more shaftings to come on the delivery side anyway.

Re: RING THIS NUMBER TO CANCEL UNION SUBS
Precisely why I have pulled out of the union. It has become a "gentlemans club" you couldn't possibly get elected to it unless you have the base support and you wouldn't get that because you don't belong to the close circle of PEC, Area and Div Reps. We had a vote recently and despite there being other candidates the same old faces were elected, in one election there was a gentlemans agreement where one of the candidates withdrew to leave an open field for the other. These Area and Div Reps are the self same ones who will not back the membership against the management because they do not want to jeopardise THEIR position and couldn't give a toss about the membership - not one member of the Branch is from the delivery section! Now does that tell a tale! It's not for the want of trying either. The CWU needs to be independent from RM and it cannot do that whilst there is this financial attachment through subs collection and facilities.MoNkEyBoY wrote:This issue over D2DS now in our work load this is nothink new in the unions eyes, since 1995 they have tried to get D2Ds into our workload.

I'm afraid it is a forlorn hope that change can come from within. The change must come from the membership really wanting to bring it about and that would need organising on a massive scale without the support of the existing branch structure for obvious reasons.

Change from within is a nonsense.
The structure of the CWU is at fault.
Our branch secretary doesnt even work for Royal Mail. How is this even possible?
I stand by my observations that the CWU is a corrupt or at the very least twisted organisation.
They put their members interests behind their own political and financial agenda.
Much like the New Labour party, the union will fall.

On the contrary: Change from within is extremely difficult, because the people best suited to take over these positions, choose to leave in dispair, when we all get shafted.pickaname wrote:Change from within is a nonsense.

Now, that isn't meant as a criticism of them. Far from it. I completely understand why they choose to leave the Union. But traditional Trade Unionists are a dying breed to start with (too many Children of the Thatcher era!), but when those that remain leave. It makes it so much harder to change the Union from within.
Does that mean that we should ALL leave, and try to manage without a Union?
Not in my opinion. As far as I'm concerned: as long as we still have a recognised Union, there's still hope. We've turned things around before (remember Keggie?), and we can do it again. It'll be hard, but not impossible.

Think of it this way. Nobody is getting paid for delivering D2D.MoNkEyBoY wrote:Im still struggling to get my head around why everyone is getting the payment,as there will be lads in our office getting the £20.60 a week for delivering none and its wrong.
Everyone who works in delivery gets the supplement.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Re: RING THIS NUMBER TO CANCEL UNION SUBS
Well you can think of it that way or you can think of it as you used to be paid for doing that work independently and for the amount done and now you won't and the bloke next to you who didn't do them and still won't will be paid - it's a case of a half full/half empty cup - in your case it is now half empty and in his case it's half full, though for ease of reference lets call it winners and losers!clashcityrocker wrote:Think of it this way. Re: RING THIS NUMBER TO CANCEL UNION SUBS
Yes I'll just bet all those who aren't in the union are kicking themselves that for the last two years they have saved themselves £300 even though they won't be getting the £400 colleague share - OH - wait a minute THEY WILL GET THE £400 as well - so that's £700 for them andgideon 60 wrote:you and the tories will make good bed fellows. minimum wage , statuary sick pay, it will all be coming your way. p s give your 400 quid back, cause you,ll get jack s**t like that without a union.pickaname wrote:0845 6060 603

The union has negotiated a pay cut for many members.
Can they give that back as well?
