Tommo great post mate, now then, DOM, lets be honest and look forward into the future, you say that it will be lose lose, it will if we lose this, but none of our competitors wants to give a universal service, why would they, they are making money hand over fist, they might in the future have a delivery service for big cities, but they dont want the out of the way places and the bad estates, and if any of them do, your talking about maybe one possibly two competitors who will do it, if we lose this dispute within 5 years you will have a workforce of 100,000 down, from 190,000, the two muppets at the top also want a 75% part time workforce so they wont need as many D.Os, massive areas will be served from one big delivery hub, they wont need as many DOMs, we have a workforce of 110 and we have 4 managers, work it out for yourself, in reality we are fighting your fight to, its just you lot are so busy listening to the propaganda from the top, and collecting your thousands of pounds of bonus to see what is happening, if anybodys sticking their head in the sand then its you lot, and the time for fighting the competition was before our mail market was opened not now, weve already lost that fight because of the complete incompetance of Leighton and Crozier, instead of fighting the goverment and postcomm they were too busy looking at bonuses they would get if they delivered cuts in the business, at one time you had DOMs who had done the job and worked their way up the ladder and you new that if you had a problem you knew you were talking to someone with experience who new the job, now weve got a bunch of graduates who know bugger all about life and even about this job,yes boys all to willing to sell their souls for a handfull of coins.UNITY IS STRENGTH.

Dom...I don't got nothing against you personally,your'e just another tool in a bigger picture as are we all..Maybe a little more respect than others(although i use the word respect loosely) because at least you show some interest in what the blokes are saying otherwise you wouldn't be on this site, However..we are all banging our heads against a brick wall here..You in your suit trying to get people to accept the same false promises that you have been fed, Us the blokes on the ground with the common sense to see through the Pony and trap you peddle..you talk of the six of 1 half a dozen of the other aspect of all this,maybe you have a valid point..again however you must remember that is your opinion and is'nt shared by many on your paygrade..We are NOT as stupid as they think..far from it in fact as many on this site have proved with thier comments..The old adage.."somethings gotta give" is in relevance here, will it be us or them...Time will tell.....................

I think that those at the top (Royal Mail and CWU) need to start working together and then it might flow throught to us.

This is where me and the CWU leadeship part company.

DOM if you are indeed a real manager then you need to wake up mate because YOU will be targetted next year!!! You are being kept sweet this year with your little bonuses that have just come through, but trust me YOU WILL BE HIT HARD within a few years. You should be fighting this RIGHT NOW with the rest of us, this is your war as much as ours imo. Your union should be right behind ours because you are only part of the workforce SAME AS US!!! I cant wait til the two ronnies unveil their plans for you haha! You will then understand our position we are in right now mate! big al and little adam are letting postcom walk all over royal mail the competition are cherrypicking and royal mail are fighting with there hands behind there backs they should be in constructive talks with the cwu but refuse and spout the same old bullshit i for one dont like being on strike i would rather provide a service to the public and have a full weeks wage coming in but while the bosses at top level are walking around with there heads in the clouds i have no intention of returning to work and to be honest my dom doesent give a s**t if we turn up or not i totaly agree with mad sorter the spineless doms will be next :lfo :cfo

I understand that people see striking as the only way that those at the top will sit up and listen but I'd rather we stop fighting between ourselves and start fighting our competitors together!! We are in very difficult times, but we need to be positive to win this (not easy).

This is great stuff. At least with my job our bosses can't say bollocks like that. What would be much better is to work together with workers from royal mail's competitors, and together fight you and their bosses!

If TNT workers fought for better wages and conditions as well it would take away their competitive advantage.

It's bosses and workers who are in competition. I don't think your calls for unity with yourself and the management will have much resonance here - how much do you get paid? (In my council they are making lots of job and service cuts, pay cuts, and price hikes for the elderly, disabled, council tenants, etc. At the same time, the council directors awarded themselves a pay rise of £40,000. Taking their pay to around £140,000 a year)

Apparently the Royal Mail's two HR chiefs are barely on speaking terms following a series of bust-ups. Perhaps the stresses and strains of the ongoing postal strike are taking their toll.
