2. The strike brought back change by agreement. We have change by agreement regardless of the views on here. Breaking the agreement will bring about strikes again.

The fact that the deal is going to be harsh to you is a signal for you to just forget about the ins and outs and just do your hours. The agreement (and no agreement ever) supersedes the relationship between the hours you work and how much you are paid.

Change by agreement? And this is the result.
Using your own argument, if half the members could not be bothered to vote, why would they bother to go on strike? And how do the union convince us that they have our interests at heart, and not their own preservation?

Well 2/3 of those that bothered did and we have to accept that. But with around 50% not being bothered enough to vote, or perhaps more of "no point in voting it will come in anyway" which is what I kept hearing.

OK its a democratic vote and we have to accept it thems the breaks. But with the turn out being on a par with a GE I think the Union should be careful about trumpeting this deal or claiming an overwhelming mandate. They haven't yet, officially at least, but I think it will come across as arrogant and out of touch if they do.

Relieved about the yes vote.
Think I'll join the union , which eventually saw sense when it agreed with RM and realised that the strikes could not continue.
Union has worked. I can't see that this outcome would have been a possibility without it.
That strikes are now increasingly becoming a thing of the past, helped by strike-minded members now quitting the union, is progress to me.
Too many other factors affecting the future of postal mail that are outwith our control. A deal was essential, but it's just an elastoplast on a broken business model, which needs to change or die.

More worrying is that some people in London went out 18 times, and lost over £1k in pay, yet there's a fair chance that some of them didn't bother to vote. Unless London bucked the national trend and had 100% of votes returned.

So why strike and then not use your vote ? CRAZY !

This has to be rigged! Every single person I've spoke to voted no. A handful of staff in my office havn't even received a ballot paper yet! Manager says the ballot was extended as some papers ended up in revenue protection because of underpayment!!

Where do we go for an independent investigation on it?

People in my office are finding it hard to believe only 50% bothered to vote, and the yes vote is 2 to 1 in favour of excepting this deal. If this was a strike vote RM would be straight in the court's and have it turned over. Something is very wrong here.

At last it's good to see common sense shines through and it was a yes vote, about time walking staff were brought kicking and screaming into the real world like the rest of us, and your getting £20 extra, so what's there to moan about . Welcome to 8 hour days. Now wheres my £400?

The fact of the matter is, people didn't vote because they couldn't be bothered with the politics. Same thing happens with the general election with people not being bothered to vote but they will be the first ones to moan if a party they don't want to rule the country come into power.

Also many people in Royal Mail now are two-faced.... they will say...of course i am voting no....which infact they may think...oh i could do with an extra 400 quid now.. same old same old springs to mind.

All i can say to those who didn't vote is... you had your chance to voice your opinion... when you are working on saturdays until 3pm at least... DON'T COMPLAIN ABOUT IT !!

I think,and this is just an opinion that many of those who didn't vote were caught in the middle of conflicting emotions.
Having been been constantly fed the union line that there was no alternative,no plan b but knowing in themselves it was a poor deal they simply choose the easy way out and did nothing.
Dammed if you do,dammed if you don't....safer to do nowt.
As i said it's just an opinion.
