So why join a democratic union if you're not willing to abide by it's democratic decisions ?

meercat wrote:Yes it was a 'democratic' process but the ballot options did NOT reflect the impact of the decision being made. Indoors workers and those in areas that recieve low volumes of d2d voted on increases in workload and cuts in pay that WILL NOT affect them. So it was a totally unfair process with no attempt made to make it truely representational. Indoors and outdoors staff should have had seperate ballots and the question of d2d should have been made by area basis to make it fair.

Only 20% of the UK population voted for this Labour Government - everyone else didn't. And NOT ONE voter voted for Gordon Brown as PM. That's also 'democracy' in action but it doesn't make it right.

Also just cancelled union deduction and the hospital assurance thing while I was there as can't afford that anymore. 30hr contract so 160quid a year better off as a result. Kiss my ASS CWU.
There's no point in trying to blame those of us who don't work in Deliveries. This is a very bad deal for us too. Which you'd know, if you'd read the section about us. This agreement will very quickly lead to our working conditions catching up with what you already have to put up with. Do you really think we want that? :d'oh! :hmmmm

Then theres the fact that there aren't enough of us to outvote Deliveries anyway. We only make up a small minority of all the Posties in RM.

Oh, and on a personal note: I wouldn't have voted for it, even if it HAD been a good deal for us. Because it would have meant shafting my Brothers and Sisters in Deliveries.

If you want to blame someone, you'll have to look elsewhere.....

I joined a union that would fight for my terms and conditions, and when I dont think they've done that,
then thats the time to leave!

It looks like a lot of people do NOT believe in a democracy like it or not the deal has gone through by 2 to 1. Think it is pathetic that people on here who did not get what they wanted, straight away want to leave the Union.

I hope D.Ward and B.Hayes do the honourable thing and resign now.

UNITE number six isnt that the DIMS union are you trying to tell us somethink

Here here meercat couldnt agree with you more mate this is by far the most unfair ballot ive been involved in,in 14 years of working for R/M and being a member of the union.
thats right I am in unite however it does not mean I am a dom though does it :hmmmm
Well if you work for Royal Mail it does as Unit/CMA is a management grade Union as far as I understand it CMA is not a recognised Union for CWU grades only the CWU is.

SO, and I am only guessing - you are either a Manager or a Customer, of course both are welcome as long as they are up front about it, and of course that they don't try to wind up CWU members on here (and vice a versa).

I cancelled my subscription in 2003 when the Union refused to represent me at my ET - so I had to do it myself.

I've saved about a grand in subs since then... and have no less rights than when I was a member.

Think about it.

You've got ten people, you offer six of them a rise by taking money away from the remaining four, you get them all to vote on it and guess what? 60% to 40% maybe!

I understand why people voted yes,but for those of you who did, please don't try to tell us we've got a good deal or that the result of the vote is "fair"!

If you believe that everyone just voted on the issue of money, then you have a very small opinion of human nature.

Oh sorry, yes i did presume they voted for it because of the money. What other reasons were there, was it the longer Saturdays or the unspecified delivery spans ?
Job security, attendance patterns with more days off (not everyone is bothered about saturdays, a bit longer saturday for an extra day off my suit some).
Workshops assessing workloads.
Change by agreement.
Weight off the shoulder.
I suppose there are more but there you go.....

Number six my question was only an quirery.

I think what many havent said here is that the union FAILED in its duty to listen to its members.

If any of you attended any of the conferences were D.Ward and B.Hayes were present ( 3 i attended) rep after rep stood up including myself and raised the issues of the d2d cap being lifted, longer del spans, longer sats and they didnt listen they didnt want to listen.

At one D.Ward said if the deal gets rejected we will not go back on the gate we have no plan B this is it. Is this a just and proper manner to treat your members in one aspect it was a vail threat scare tactics,to scare the weak into voting yes.

Question snoop lets say for example you have voted labour all your life, and now you dont agree with how they run the country would you then not vote for another party so leaving the labour party. If people feel let down by a democratic union do they not have the democratic right to leave i cant see the problem with leaving if thats what the indivdual wants and its certantly not pathetic.

What a fantastic idea, and at precisely the right moment. . . . . pick a time when the local bosses and union reps have been given the job of deciding our future (rather than the boys at the top) and severely weaken the power of your local rep by splitting the workforce and abandoning the union. Nice !
rm and the 2 imbeciles who front the cwu, have already split the workforce by colluding together, and creating winners and losers in this garbage they called a deal, the s**t WILL hit the fan in the coming months, so its probably wise to wait until the dust settles before bailing out. thats what i,m doin anyways.

big mick, you spot on, i see people sacked, disciplined and downtrodden, and with or without a rep, theyre sacked, in my office its in dble figures in the last year, the cwu IS finished- the ranks are split, people are leaving the union, its divide and conquer.

All this crap about its time we stood together and worked hand in hand, bullshit.
In the past 2 weeks, the dum in my office has taken bits off walks, assigned them to others, taken a walk out and put a row each on others, failed registered packets- 50 or so on saturdays, made drivers do deliveries, and thats before this deal, with an agreement on no changes to duties within the office.

only the most ardent cwu/union man will believe they can do some good, me, id rather come in, do my job til im done and go home- no more than that,
